Although it is not functional now, it was quite popular in the 2000’s. That was the peak of the first dot com bubble and also the era of Indian liberalization. India’s social media users have only kept increasing since then. Then came Friendster, Orkut, Myspace and finally Facebook in 2005. Facebook now has more than 142 million active users in India including hard to reach demographics such as school students. DISADVANTAGES OF INDIAN YOUTH USING SOCIAL MEDIA

LACK OF PRIVACY- Maintaining privacy is not as easy as it seems. Many of the teens consider social networks as very friendly and so they share their personal information without any hesitation. This information can be misused by various advertisers and marketing companies for commercial interests. 88% of "private" sexual images posted to social media are stolen and publicly posted on porn sites without the subject's knowledge. Victims can be charged for child pornography.

DISTRACTION- Indian youth spend approximately 2.2 hrs daily on their phones. They get involved in pointless arguments. The productivity of work also decreases due to distractions and can result in low grades for students.
