Social class has a large, meaningful impact on the stereotypes people encounter on a daily basis, the opportunities they have for themselves and their families and their sport participation. Those in lower social classes are affected in many ways including physical, intellectual, emotional, social, environment, and spiritual. The environmental affect those in poverty and the working class experience connects to all of the other disadvantages they may experience. Many areas that have a low socioeconomic status experience things like food deserts and noise and air pollution. Food deserts mean that there is little to no access to grocery stores or fresh produce and an abundance of fast food and convenience stores that carry processed food that will negatively impact ones health. This gives those families little options on what they can eat. It is also much more expensive to buy fresh produce, therefore, even if there was access, oftentimes families in poverty or the working class would still choose the fast food to save money. Another factor is the intellectual piece. People who are less educated may have a good knowledge of food and how it affects ones health; this also goes with less knowledge of the effects of smoking and drinking. …show more content…

Having little exercise as well as eating poorly can lead to health problems but a lack of healthcare or good healthcare can cause people to make the decision to forgo medical treatment, therefore, low income families are much more likely to suffer from illness than their wealthier counterparts. Their health can also be affected emotionally and socially. Emotionally, there can be a lot of added stress for those in lower income families. They have a constant worry of keeping a job, working extra hours, paying their bills, and trying to get three meals on the table for their family each day. There can also be a lot of added stress on children if they aren’t getting enough to eat, if their parents aren’t around enough due to work or alcohol/drug problems, or abuse. Families being abusive or not being around much can also lead to social problems in school and making friends. Spiritual can affect people in different ways as everyone has a different religion. I can imagine if I were in a position like those in poverty, I would have little to no faith in
