Mobile phones are connecting Africans to each other and to the rest of the world. With Africa gaining access to mobile phones first, Africa’s adoption of technology is much different than the western countries. Being mobile first means that Africa can leap forward in innovation, without the financial burden of vast iterative infrastructure changes that the United States progressed through. The relatively low cost to own a mobile phone, and the deployment of wireless infrastructure, allows Africans connection to the global society anywhere one might find ones self. The internet gives one access to information and education. As highlighted earlier, iCow changed John’s life. John was able to move from seeking to just being able to provide food for himself and his family, to having the ability to send his daughter to school to obtain an education.
