America today is described with words such as “the land of opportunity” or “the home of the brave.” In the article “What’s so great America” Dinesh D’Souza depicts America as “a better life” where “everything works.” The article is not only aimed at Americans, but the ideal audience is society as a whole. D’Souza acts very straightforward and formal trying to convince the people that America is abundant. He is not asking a question in the title, he is making a statement. Dinesh D’Souza, sending a crystal message, challenges all America’s critics and proves them otherwise. He defends not an unrealistic America, but America as it really stands, and measures America against the rest of the world, in contrast, I believe this presumption is far from true because of existing economic gaps, poor living conditions, and differences in social class seen today. 1). As can be seen, he is generally speaking about how our country functions in a orderly manner. But with only giving common examples of everyday activity, D’Souza is not entirely conveying the image of the realities of America. For instance, in a broader perspective, our judicial system at times fails us. It puts innocent people behind bars due to the fact of their background, race, or complexion. Similarly, our immigration system fails. Society today is discriminating stereotypically against innocent undocumented people that are just looking for the opportunities and better way of life America says to offer. They are being denied that hope because of mistakes those who do not have sane intentions have made. On a different note, in many rural areas there are not healthy standards of living for people who are less fortunate and are suffering from poverty.
