Dimension of Nursing Practice: Practice- Provides leadership in the application of the nursing process to patient care, organizational processes and/or system, improving outcomes at the program or service level.
Ms. Bardsley functions as a hemodialysis liaison and leader in clinical practice with the following roles: charge nurse, preceptor, and mentor for her colleagues. She is the resource person for the Hct-Line monitoring tool. The tool is used to monitor patient’s fluid removal during treatment to avoid hypotensive episodes associated with decreased perfusion to the heart. She routinely monitors the patient outcomes which to date has resulted in 0 admissions. She recently updated the policy to make it more user friendly for the staff and to maintain staff competency.

Bardsley was selected as the unit’s glucometer champion responsible for glucometer training and competency for the Hemodialysis Nurses. She tracks the competencies to assure staff is competent at all times. We have had 100% documentation in the last year, a measure required of the lab/ organization.
Dimension of Nursing Practice: Collaboration- Uses the group process to identify, analyze, and resolve care problems.
As a charge nurse, Ms. Bardsley leads morning huddle to identify and make improvements in work flow, patient care and assignments according to the needs of the staff and unit on any particular day. The huddles provide for continuity of care, transparency among manager and staff, and an opportunity to discuss improvement projects and lastly a session once per week directed by the social worker to help with staff mindfulness to destress what is a stressful area of practice.
Ms. Bardsley builds many professional relationships with her colleagues by sitting on a variety of hospital-wide committees.
