Grit Is More Important Than Talent

There has been various debates between grit and talent whether what is more important to be success. At this point, I would like to quote one famous quotation: “The one who was born a genius can’t win against the one who tries, and the one who tries can’t win against the one who enjoys by Confucius. What types of people easily can be successful? People who have growth mindset? People who have strong grit? or People who born with certain area of ability? I believe that grit plays a very significant role as successful in life more than talent.

And the meaning of grit is “passion and perseverance,” and talent is “natural abilities and qualities”. Now, we can see the obvious differences among growth mindset, grit, and talent. I would like to express talent as “It is gorgeous on the outside but empty on the inside”, like this sentence, if they are not try harder, no one can know how deep their possibilities are; rather it will be disappeared. People’s standard for success is different by people to people; success can be defined as various ways; it can be a high-salary job, maintaining a good relationship with everyone, and living with healthy life. Even though these are all different standard for each one, but there is a common factors, which is growth mindset and grit. People who have growth mindset tend to think positive way in all subject; they are not afraid of try something new, and believe they can learn from making mistakes. I believe people are controlled by what they think. If we think negative way such as “I can’t fix it by myself”, or “I don’t have any talent so I can’t do it like them.” They will follow the way that they have always thought. It’s really simple. I have read one book which is about one man’s life, and the man used to very poor. However, he never gave up his life by writing down his plans and tried to follow all of them. Now on, he is a well-known singer in Korea. Without his passion and perseverance, he could have not been a famous singer. Of course, I believe there are some people who believe talent is more important to success. I would like to give one example. I think everyone knows Beyonce very well, she is world-famous singer in the USA; her voice cannot be comparable with others, and her dance is also so amazing. I used to believe that some group of people have certain kind of abilities that others don’t have; literally I think they were born with a great talent. No one can denies Beyonce’s ability to sing and dance but there must have been a incomparable effort in order to be a world’s-best singer. If Beyonce would afraid of making mistakes or wouldn’t try hard, the results would have been different; she could not have been the one of the most famous singers in the world.
