The question Did Joseph McCarthy create a “red scare” or did the “red scare” create Joseph McCarthy suggests if Joseph McCarthy started the red scare or if he was trying to show others he isn’t a communist because of other people’s fears of communism in the US. In other words, McCarthy’s policy in the United States stimulated everyone to fear and watch out for Communists leading to a massive witch hunt for the Communists within the country. In my opinion, I believe that McCarthy created due to the “red scare” and wanted to build it because of the news that the Soviet Union has a nuclear bomb after the US had discovered and detonated theirs. In life and society, the evidence to support my viewpoint is pervasive.

In document 1, Joseph McCarthy says a speech to the Ohio County Women’s Republican Club stating that the Soviets will expand and have more people than the United States and will result in the United States defeat in the Cold War. When America discovered and detonated their first atomic bomb, the Soviet Union spies went in and gave the Soviet Union information which would be crucial to the manufacturing of the atomic bomb. This stimulated McCarthy to say the part that the enemy will destroy us from within because there has to be spies because of the Soviet’s discovery of the atomic bomb and later the hydrogen bomb. McCarthy wanted to make people fear that spies might be within the borders of the United States and they must be stopped before it was too late. Due to the discovery of the atomic bomb by the US and later the Soviet Union, everyone was scared that a WW3 might happen and devastate the Earth forever so McCarthy started the action again.

Take the evidence of the Truman’s Response to McCarthy, Truman stated that the Kremlin must have put McCarthy there to cause turmoil and that must be a reason why he must have caused the country to go into a red scare. Take the evidence of the cartoon from Herb Block, which showed McCarthy drive his car into innocent people who had no influence of the communist and were scared by McCarthy’s ways of finding communists. McCarthy wanted to be well known and decided to start the red scare so that everyone else can fear and be aware of the communist everywhere.
