The Diary of Anne Frank is a true story based in Germany. In July 1942 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands Anne, Mr.Frank, Mrs.Frank, Margo, Peter, Miep, Mr.Van Daan, and Mrs.Van Daan were sent to an annex above Mr.Frank's business to hide. They were very scared and fearful for their from the Nazis. They are Jewish, and the Nazis wanted to kill Jews. There are many different similarities and differences. Three things that were similar and different include the following. In the book it showed they lived in an annex above Mr.Frank's business. In the movie it also showed them hiding in a secret annex above Mr.Frank’s business for hiding from the Nazis so they didn't get caught. Another similarity that happened was Anne and Peter start liking each and visited each other and visited each other in the attic, which was also in the book, along with the movie. There are a lot of similarities that were in the movie and the book, but these are just some of them. …show more content…

One thing that happened in the movie and not in the book is when a window shatters it was Mr.Kraler trying to get into the business. The reason why Mr.Kraler had to break the window was because Peter forgot to unbolt the door. In the book/play when the window shatters it is a thief robbing Mr.Frank’s business, not Mr.Kraler. Another difference is in the movie Mrs. Frank burns a pan while she is making lunch which causes there so become smoke. In the book/play it doesn’t say anything about Mrs. Frank burning anything. The third difference is in the book/play it states that Peter and Anne go to Peter’s room to talk and get away from the adults. In the movie it shows that they go up to the attic where they kissed. Anne did give Margot a crossword puzzle, Mrs. Van Daan shampoo, Mr. Van Daan cigarettes, Mrs. Frank an IOU for 10 hours of services, Mr. Frank a muffler, Mouschi a toy, and Peter a safety razor, and Mr. Dussel ear plugs. In the movie the dialogue changed, but the actions and presents did not. Each person showed the same emotions as they did in the movie and the underlying emotion of joy. The reason that film-makers most likely kept it the same was to show that even though Anne could have left Hanukkah alone and stuck to singing the songs and lighting the candles, she chose not to. It showed that even though they were hiding in the midst of a war, Anne wanted them to all have fun. Even when it meant she wasn't getting any presents, she never faltered or complained about it. It showed her maturity and ability to make even the worst of situations better.
