As many of us can agree, a drastic amount of our time is spent indoors, therefore it is very important to consider and study the lighting factor in design to create a comfortable environment. Also since we spend most time indoors, one must design for natural light to be brought into the suitable spaces to not have a lack of naturalness and lightness especially during the daytime.
It is inarguable that lighting is not easy to diffuse with design in order to create a comfortable environment. Different spaces have different complexities in lighting them, but usually living spaces such as bedrooms and living rooms are more difficult in designing lightning for them than designing duty areas such as bathrooms, offices and kitchens. The reason is that it’s more difficult is because it should be designed for various activities in these rooms, with the general emphasis being on atmosphere and mood with infrequent tasks needed to be done in such spaces.
Since a human having a lack of exposure to natural light can affect in the mood and productivity in a negative way, spaces where most time is spent are usually designed intricately to have natural to benefit from and artificial light for the times when natural light is not obtainable. Therefore, in designing spaces such as offices, natural light is a big benefit as it can make a big difference to productivity.

Saying that, many people discourage to depend more on natural light especially during the day for a few reasons like bringing in heat to the indoor space, or not being able to light up the room fully. Easily, less walls for dividing can be used and also glass walls for public spaces. But, one simple and innovative solution is light shelves; which I will explain later on. Such techniques not only help to allow natural light to fill the interiors using a graceful lighting for the environment, but it also enhances the design of spaces of your place. In addition it triggers a big difference in the mood and productivity of the people throughout the space.
