California: Vacation Paradise
Trying to get out of Texas for a change, my family and I decided to take a summer vacation after my senior year. The idea of escaping from heat and humidity sounded so good to me; I was ready for cool, breezy weather. Therefore, California was the perfect location to visit. The thought of California was very attractive where the weather is pleasant all year long, and many different activities are available outdoors, as well. On our way from the East to the West Coast of the United States, I was already in my vacation mood. The plane was flying smoothly; I appeared comfortable in my athletic clothes and felt relaxed as I calmly read the magazines provided for us. It was an hour before landing when I instantly sensed the refreshing air on the plane becoming cooler as we approached Los Angeles. As I walked to the beach, I encountered a feeling that will never be forgotten. Every step I took, my bright green slippers sank into the warm, soft sand and covered my feet. As I lifted my feets up and out of the textured sand, the sand rushed out as I wiggled my toes, almost feeling like a massage. I collected colorful sea shells that varied in shape, and size. The clear, light blue waves which rose higher and higher made music to my ears, especially as the waves came tumbling down. As the sea breeze blew onto my face, my eyes slowly squinted, my hair flew back gently, and the goose bumps slowly began to crawl up my arms. I took a deep breath, and the fresh smell of salt water rushed into my nose. As the waves hit harder, the sun set, and the breeze grew stronger and stronger. Choosing a vacation destination can be difficult. When deciding a destination there are many things to consider. Two of the most important considerations are the climate, and activities that are available. California is one of the top destinations for many people. California is also known as the “Sunshine State”. The beautiful state has many things to offer for families, couples, and singles. The top places that are visited in Southern California include many amusements and popular site seeing. A few top places are Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Hollywood Boulevard, and Catalina Island. These are a few of the top attractions in Southern California. Ultimately where you choose to visit will be a personal choice.
Most Americans have their favorite place to live or visit whether it be at a coastline or the mountains. The two states that are most favored by Americans are Florida and California. These are the biggest when it comes down to tourist attractions. There are many factors to consider when comparing California to Florida such as housing, weather, food, culture, and beaches.
In the summer of 2015, the summer before my freshman year, my grandmother and I took a trip to the other side of the country. I had never been anywhere west of Tennessee before, so going to California was going to be an exciting experience. My vacation there was like going to a whole other country. The morning of our flight I double checked my bags and made sure I had everything I would need for my trip. Flying into Fresno everything I saw was brown, except for the golf courses. The reason for everything being so brown was because during this time California was in a 5-year drought. Also being in the central valley it’s sandy and desert like. After landing and getting our luggage we stood outside waiting for my uncle to pick us up from the airport. When you think of California you think of perfect weather but stepping outside we were met with 115 degrees of the blazing hot sun. Not exactly what I consider “perfect” weather.
There I stand on the Atlantic Ocean beach in Daytona, Florida. It’s 7:49 A.M, June 28, 2015. I feel my size ten feet sink into the frosty sand. With my board in my left arm, and sand covering my body, I seize my direction towards the blue ocean. As I halt at the base of the monumental ocean, I gaze in both directions, not a life in sight. I feel at peace, solitude, in my own meager world. As the crisp ocean mist wipes my sand replete face, I bounce into the ocean with my board under my body, cruising into the profound blue sea.
As the plane slowly descended to a lower altitude, I took off my seatbelt quickly, eager to see the extent of the view. I stood up excitedly to see the whole scenery. When it landed, I eagerly grabbed the items and went out of the plane. The smell of air was different here. It was cold mountain fresh air. Before all I’m familiar with is air pollution. That day, I knew it was a lot different here.
The smell of the restaurants faded and the new, refreshing aroma of the sea salt in the air took over. The sun’s warmth on my skin and the constant breeze was a familiar feeling that I loved every single time we came to the beach. I remember the first time we came to the beach. I was only nine years old. The white sand amazed me because it looked like a wavy blanket of snow, but was misleading because it was scorching hot. The water shone green like an emerald, it was content. By this I mean that the waves were weak enough to stand through as they rushed over me. There was no sense of fear of being drug out to sea like a shipwrecked sailor. Knowing all this now I knew exactly how to approach the beach. Wear my sandals as long as I could and lay spread out my towel without hesitation. Then I’d jump in the water to coat myself in a moist protective layer before returning to my now slightly less hot towel. In the water it was a completely different world. While trying to avoid the occasional passing jellyfish, it was an experience of
New Mexico: The Land of Enchantment; the land of blue skies for as long as the eye can see; warm days with the rays of the sun beating down on your neck. Cool, windy nights with millions of stars dotting the horizon, and the vast Milky Way, exposed and vulnerable, like a beacon standing out from the dark, blank canvas that is the sky. The vast Land of Enchantment welcomed us into its arms, with the smirkish smile on its face, hiding the deceit in its eyes.
This is an ideal and perfect atmosphere to experience the famous California lifestyle, centered on three miles of wide and sandy beaches. This City enjoys a mild climate that averaging to 68 degrees Fahrenheit a year and the air quality is steadily good and refreshing in the coastal district part of the Santa Monica.
A diverse landscape filled with palm trees, bars, country clubs and beaches. Where people risk it all to make their way and might find themselves as successful entrepreneurs or just another crab in bucket trying to get to the top, pulling down others in the process. The world looks at San Diego as a paradise, where famous people walk the street and freedom of expression is the way of life. People who visit see this place as an oasis, but knowing the real hustle and bustle of this city life, I had a gnawing sensation with every fiber of my being.
Walking on a land of gold, the sand being so soft and smooth, glistens as it reflects the suns rays with joy. Cool, light and refreshing, the breeze gently eases up against my skin and glides through my hair, sending a gentle shiver up my spine. The rustling of leaves, small array of birds and delicate splashes of the sea are amazingly soothing and relaxing. The whole beach itself looks like a painted picture with a spectrum of colours all merged with one another. The sea also showing off a wide range of colours that reflects of the surface, like a dancing peacock showing off its finely detailed feathers.

San Francisco is a famous city located in Northern California and has many attractions that bring tourists from all around the world to this beautiful destination each year. San Francisco is known for the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Pier 39, and much more! It is the fourth most populated city in California, with more than eight hundred thousand residents. Built on forty-three hills, San Francisco covers over forty-six square miles of land. This city is now the home to many historic sights, popular entertainment places, and sports teams.
I turned off the car and took a deep breath. Looking slowly up into the pink sky, I began to watch the golden sun go to sleep. The beach seemed deserted, quiet, but peaceful. I opened my door and put my feet out on the soft sand. I started taking my shoes off, then my socks. I threw them in the passenger seat, and then shut the door. I looked out over horizon of the lake and started walking towards the still water. With each step I took, I could feel the warm sand crunch between my toes. Then suddenly, a sharp rock, but not sharp enough to break the skin.
