The warriors sacrificed themselves for their cause. Abraham Lincoln acclaims the endeavors of these martyrs. He says they fought and died on the battlefield to keep their beliefs alive. They may have died but their country “conceived in liberty” and dedicated to the equality of all men, lives on. As a result, Abraham Lincoln words his address in such way that the virtue of the nation itself defines martyrs.
He says “any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure”. The men`s deaths resulted from a “test” to see if such a nation can survive. Describing the war is such an unorthodox style downplays the gory image of the wars. It does, however, make the listeners picture the warriors not as barbarians who ruthlessly slaughtered one
