Derrick Rose continues to have a interesting season with the New York Knicks as he continues to learn and execute the triangle offense.
The New York Knicks are in a tough fight for a potential spot in the playoffs with two months of play remaining in the season. The recent effort from the team utilizing team president Phil Jackson's triangle offense has sparked the team offensively quickly making star forwards Kristaps Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony fans.
While the Knicks front court is thriving from the triangle, starting point guard Derrick Rose is still having his troubles adjusting to the system. Rose is averaging 17 points per game this season and playing at times like his old MVP self from his years with the Chicago Bulls. Armstrong recently in an interview with the New York Post insisted the former All-Star point guard wanted to remain a Knick long term after this season.
“Nothing has changed with us, It’s the same. We are committed to New York long term. We’ve been committed from the first day we got traded there. You win together, lose together and stick together.”
“New system. New coach. I tell Derrick don’t get frustrated, stick with the system and players and keep encouraging guys and try to find a way to win games. That’s what being a good teammate is all about.’’
Rose has been healthier this season with the Knicks as opposed to the last few seasons in Chicago giving the team another consistent threat. His play on offense has played a good role in covering a few big defensive lapses in judgement put well on display recently during Toronto Raptors guard DeMar Derozan's game winning basket on Monday.
I believe Rose's statement on "choice" to reporters regarding the triangle offense is all the Knicks can really count on moving forward.

Rose was not allowed on varsity due to his coach Bob Hambric’s, long standing rule - no freshmen on varsity rule. Even though Rose was on jv he still played in full gear. He averaged 18.5 points, 6.6 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game. The next year Coach Hambric retired, giving Rose the chance to be on varsity and shine. In Rose’s varsity debut he had 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals against Thornwood High School. One of Derrick’s greatest moments came when he lead his school to the class AA state championship and won as a junior. That year Rose was awarded with an All State Honorable Mention, EA Sports All-American Second Team, and a Parade All-American Team Mention. The losing season can be accounted for by two main concerns: One, there is an extreme lack of defensive effort, and two, negative attitudes have flared up because of frustrations between the players. These attitudes are causing more than just team problems, though; they are causing issues in the players' friendships off the basketball court. No sports team likes to lose, but because poor playing is hurting the team both on and off the court, affirmative action must be taken. Increased work on defense and shutting down the negative attitudes towards fellow teammates will not only help increase communication and trust, but it will also increase the chances of winning games throughout the rest of the season.
