The co-culture I chose to research is the sorority Delta Zeta. The symbol of delta zeta is a triangle and a Z, as seen in the picture below. Another symbol of Delta Zeta is the turtle. The turtle is the sororities mascot because their relationship with The Painted Turtle shows how committed they are and how much philanthropy means to them.Sororities and greek life in general have a lot of slang. Members of a sorority are called “sisters”, and new members are known as pledges until the initiation ceremony. This is different from the american culture as a whole because we don’t call every new person pledge and we don’t all think of each other as brothers and sister. This is not only important to Delta Zeta but to the entire greek system. One norm I found was going to chapter every week, which is pretty much just a meeting that delta zeta. In the meetings you talk about a lot of different things, like what projects are coming up, how everyones been doing with school the past few days, and they talk about any problems that have been going on within the group or even outside the group if it is affecting the sisters.This is one place you could talk if you were having a problem with another sister but most of them chose to talk in private with someone higher up as a show of respect for their sisters privacy. Normally if you had a problem with a sister you would talk to the president or like I said before someone higher up. You can also go up to the sister you have a problem with and just talk to them because that is also a sign of respect. If you were to quit delta Zeta then different things could happen, it all depends on when you do it. When you accept the bid you have until sometime in november to “drop out” but if you drop out you can rush for the rest of the
