What Truly is Love? Love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection. Nonetheless, love is challenging to seize in the palm of one’s hand. Love is not quantifiable, bankable, nor marketable. Every individual has a different understanding of love. As I explored the definition through the internet, books, and opinions of others I noticed the definition of love changed quite a bit, but had the same understanding. For example, in the article, “What is Love?”, the excerpt by Julian Baggini states that love is felt in a numerous amount of ways. Baggini supports his claim when he says, “Love for parents, partners, children, country, neighbor and God and so on all have different qualities” (Paragraph 3). Love is felt differently amongst people, but one similarity is the mutual commitment to that relationship you have with those people. For example, the love you can have for your parents will not be the same kind of love you will have for your spouse. Also, the love shown from a mother is universal, whereas the love of your wife is faith personified. Ultimately, love is a strong emotion with different …show more content…
The article, “ What is Love, and What isn’t?.” written by Deborah Anapol Ph.D provides insight to the composition of love itself. As Anapol introduces the topic of live she says, “This is the true nature of love, and love itself can not be manipulated or restrained. Love honors the sovereignty of each soul. Love is its own law” (PsychologyToday.com). I agree that love is uncontrollable due to the fact that we cannot control who we fall in love with. On the other hand, we can prevent it from developing, like the way we pull up a weed, but we cannot stop the weed from starting. The only way to prevent it from developing is by physically restricting contact with the other person. Love is a choice, it is a decision that you declare to uphold for someone who matters to
Love is said to be one of the most desired things in life. People long for it, search for it, and crave it. It can come in the form of partners, friends, or just simply family. To some, love is something of a necessity in life, where some would rather turn a cold shoulder to it. Love can be the mixture of passion, need, lust, loyalty, and blood. Love can be extraordinary and breathtaking. Love being held so high can also be dangerous. Love can drive people to numerous mad things with it dangerously so full of craze and passion.
Our society uses the term "love" far too lightly. Having been guilty of this offense myself, I admit my guilt. I often say, "I love Mexican food," or, "I love my truck." Love, however, is not just a happy feeling we get when something nice pleases us. Love is a verb. Love is the action of giving yourself totally to one person without expecting anything in return. Love is being willing to put aside your own needs in order to meet the needs of others. Giving up your weekend trip to the beach in order to take care of your sick mother is one example of love. A destitute mother giving up her one piece of bread to feed her sick little boy is another example of love. The ultimate expression of love is being willing to lay down your own life in the place of another. Love is giving, not getting.
Much of my life, love has been defined by an unexplainable and uncontrollable feeling that burns inside your soul. One that when you look at a person you will just know and the rest will be history. This definition of love I grew up love was also demanding, controlling, dependent, and selfish. But still it was something to be desired and something everyone couldn’t wait to feel. To love
Love is a definition of an intense feeling of deep affection where it's a strong feeling that symbols how a person feels towards another. It's a deep romantic or sexual attention to someone and a thing to admire. It's a warm, strong affection for a parent or a child to feel. It's a connection of a deep feeling towards family or personal ties. Love is an extended definition where there are different meanings that can be factual and nonfactual meaning.
Love is affection, devotion, passion, desire, warmth, respect or loyalty. You choose. It doesn't really matter which one because they are all forms of love. Some are powerful and demand attention while others are more subtle and just below the surface. In recent years, love has drifted from these subtle levels to the more noticeable ones, namely passion. In my opinion, our society downplays the real necessity for genuine affection. By this I mean that we, as a society, spend so much time focusing on only one level of love (passion) that we tend to neglect and not recognize the need for closeness and trust (friendship). Love is an all-encompassing emotion that can be powerful and demanding, but also rewarding and pleasurable.
By looking at the different parts of the brain and certain hormones love can be somewhat explained, but it can never be fully explained, because it is one the world’s greatest phenomenon’s and there are still so many different factors behind the reason why people love. In the end it looks like love can cause more problems than it can solve, when done the wrong way but done the right way be a healthy thing. In my own experience, I have loved someone, and it was amazing for a long time until I found out he cheated. This betrayal of love hurt deeply, because I put all my trust and love into him.
The Merriam Webster's dictionary has many different definitions for the meaning of the word love. It can be defined as a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties, affection based on sexual desire, or affection based on admiration, benevolence, and/or common interests. To love and be loved is cherished greatly among my family. From the day that I was born I was granted with unconditional love by my family. These people that surrounded me with this love have taught me not only to love them, but myself and hopefully a special someone in the future as well.
Love is always difficult to define because everyone has a different experience when it comes to love, that is to say, that, what one thinks as love, another may think is infatuation. For us to be able to understand the term love, we first need to grasp the two main types of love: romantic love and friendship love.
The Definition of Love Love by definition is an emotion explored in philosophy, religion, and literature, often as either romantic love, the fraternal love of others, or the love of God based on the definition found in The Encarta Encyclopedia. As I explored the definitions through the Internet, books, and articles, I noticed the definitions changed quite a bit, but yet had the same basic understanding. The definition I found in The Encarta Encyclopedia is probably the most simple and most basic. It refers to love in the whole aspect, which is Godly, fraternal, and romantic. All of which can only be defined by one word and that is love.
Many people have different perspectives when it comes to the topic of love. The word love has been tossed around by everybody and not very many people really understand the true meaning of love. There are some exceptions, but I think this is especially true for teenagers and young adults. I might be one of those people who do not fully understand the topic of love, but I hope to better understand the topic of love and its true meaning is this course.
Love is one of those things that means different things to different people. If you would look the word love up in the dictionary, you would find this: “an intense feeling of deep affection.” For some people, love can be purely romantic or even just purely sexual. For others, real love can only exist between family members or between people and a god. For some people, it is felt for your partners, family, pets, or even inanimate objects. None of the people are right or wrong, but I do know one thing, love is very powerful. Love is overused in today's world, people say they love someone because of the way they look or their body. That isn't love. To me, love is the most spectacular, indescribable, deep euphoric
Love, that single feeling which generates the funny sensations in people's stomach, giving them the warm pleasures in their body, causing them to feel joy, and to believe every aspect in their life is right. It causes them to receive an exhilarating, appealing feeling that makes them want to rejoice. Love can be a speeding of their heart, but it can also be nerve-racking. It makes their hearts begin to rapidly pump, making a rapid beat— “ba-boom, ba-boom, ba-boom”. Attempting to describe love is a rigorous task, but it is possible. However, the easiest detail to describe and understand about love is not so much the feeling of it, but the concept of what it is about. Many people may obtain different views and definitions regarding love, but
Love is actually the choice one makes to put someone's wishes, desires and needs above our own. Many people confuse the word "love" with the meaning of the word "want" or "desire." For example, sometimes when a young man tells the woman of his dreams, "I love you", when he means that he "wants" her because of his own selfish desires. He's the one that may feel all excited over her, but in reality he may want her because of her physical appearance, or because of her mentality or her ability to make him feel good or important. Notice his primary motive for pursuing her is based on himself and his desires; not on pleasing her, although he may choose to please her, but that's only based upon the fulfillment of his wants. The same goes for a young woman, when she says to the man of her dreams, "I love you," she in fact means that she "wants" him because of his physical appearance, status, mentality or his ability to make her feel good or important.
According to Merriam -Webster, one may describe love a “ profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.” The contradictory term for love is hatred, an existent that one person hates. With love, society can expect it to be unique, unconditional, and effortless.
What is love? Love is a very special and meaningful word to each human being. Each human being has his/her own thoughts about love to guide himself/herself to land safely and smoothly into the kingdom of Love. Without this preconceived idea of love, people would be acting like a blind person searching for the light with thousand of obstacles in front of him.
