True Motherhood Motherhood is a term used and displayed in everyday life. It has several aspects that require many talents and hard work. However, sometimes motherhood needs little to no talent or dedication, as well. Motherhood is an opportunity to serve others and have a big impact on other’s life. Many people look at motherhood as just a name or a title. Someone who gives birth to another is considered their mom. Yourdefinition.com says, “Motherhood is the state of being a mother; maternity.” That woman may not have anything to do with their child's life or the choices the child makes throughout their life. A title mother is the type of motherhood when their children aren’t influenced by their parent at all. They have no connections and rarely communicate if any. Some examples of this can be due to adoption or abandonment. There are some cases of this in some families, that could be living just down the street from you. Are all mothers fit for motherhood? The concept of motherhood is scrutinized in the stories “The Rocking Horse Winner” and “Tears Idle Tears”. In “The Rocking Horse Winner” by D.H Lawrence the mother, Hester, unpremeditatedly provokes her son into providing for her through gambling. In the story “Tears Idle Tears” by Elizabeth Bowen, Mrs. Dickinson disregards her son’s emotions and puts more emphasis in her appearance than her son’s wellbeing. Although hard to classify motherhood as an "easy" task in any time period, mothers of the Victorian period were among those who have had it the hardest. The view that society has on single motherhood is wrong because married couples fight, children are told that families are supposed to be a certain way, and the difference between the wealthy and the non wealthy.

Becoming a mother has been the best part of my life. I became a mother at a very young age. I had no idea what to expect and was not in the least prepared for the journey that lie ahead. I have truly embraced motherhood and enjoy all the wonderful things it has taught me. While living through motherhood, I have found that it can teach you the most valuable lessons there are to learn. Being a mother has taught me how to have patience. I have also learned that being a mother takes a lot on mental and physical strength. My children have been the best to teach me how to juggle many tasks at once. They have made me strong. Even through some unexpected turns, I have learned how to get through hard times and really learn what it means to never give up. My children are my biggest blessing, and I hope they will learn valuable lessons through me. The skills I have learned from being a mother have helped me in my college journey.
