A Meaningful Life What makes a meaningful life? It varies for each person as we are all very unique and different from one another. Even the definition of what is meaningful will vary as it may be making an imprint/significance in their lifetime or a happy life is enough to be meaningful. Though there is so much variation among the definition, there are some essentials that could relate across the board. The recipe to having a meaningful life may contain the ingredients of: happiness, fulfillment, authenticity, living more fully in the present and having a sense of purpose. A happy life and meaningful life are associated with one another, since happiness is a feeling that can drive you toward finding this meaningful life. Depending on where you are in your life, be it a student or worker, happiness should be incorporated into it. Having the passion in your work will make it more valuable and respected for yourself as we spend most of our time at school or work. Also connections with people are made throughout your time at school/work which become a part of a meaningful life. Having happiness will help create more of these relationships and be able to give you the needed support for life. These pillars will be strong when circumstances blow you down and …show more content…
If you are pretending to the life of someone else, the search for a meaningful life may go askew. Since the thoughts you have are altered due to the living life the “wrong way” because of who you should be instead of who you actually are. So having authenticity set up becomes the basis for finding your true self and deciding what does a meaningful life means to you. When you are able to fully become yourself, you can personally grow as a human being. Your ideas and beliefs will be challenged and the boundaries and limitations are pushed where more opportunities can be found. These qualities will give a stronger sense of
In Christy Wampole’s “How to Live Without Irony” and Richard Taylor’s “The Meaning of Human Existence” both authors argue how humans ought to live a meaningful life. Wampole tackles the argument in a different way than Taylor but they both have similar positions on the meaning. I agree with both authors in some of the ways that we should dictate our lives to justify meaningfulness but I also believe that meaningfulness can differ from person to person. Life is very precious to us; since humans have had the ability to consciously think, we have always questioning our existence. No other animal on the planet has had the luxury of pondering whether or not their life is meaningful.
Happiness is a mental or emotional state of being content with whatever you have. For example the Bohemian Society, these are people who enjoy an unconventional lifestyle with few permeant ties. They also have nontraditional lifestyles in which they put their time plus energy into art, music, and of course relaxation. According to the Us news 20 percent of Americans think the more money you have the better life will be but on the other hand 80 percent said being happy with a middle class pay is more live able because you have less worry. So when you think about material things it simply doesn’t matter as along as you’re happy and content.
Wolf’s “The Meanings of Lives”, states a meaningful life must have some subjective and objective element to it and must be somewhat successful; Wolf’s idea of subjectivity is that projects and activities eventually make life meaningful. The projects must fulfill certain circumstances on the subjective and objective side. I’m going to introduce Wolf’s “fitting fulfillment” idea, raise a point against it and argue her idea, that success defines a meaningful life.
A good life is when you die knowing that your life had a purpose, and you will be remembered for the good things that you have done.
But in this debate, one question still raises its head - What is happiness? Happiness is not actually leading a luxurious life, but the luxury of living a life. Happiness is not actually about expanding your business, but it lies in expanding the horizons of life. Happiness is not having a meal in the most famous restaurant, but having it with your most beloved family. It does not lie in attending honorable parties, but to attend a party with honor.

Happiness is a feeling that humans naturally desire. Without it, one feels incomplete. In this generation, happiness has taken on a definition by how we are presented to one another. It is measured by how much money we have, how famous we are, or the things we possess. When in reality, none of these things guarantee a happy life. Happiness is something that cannot be bought with money, but rather, it must be found, earned, sought after. Each and every one of us has our own list of things that we consider to make us happy. However, happiness shines brightest through the relationships we create, and the goals we make for ourselves to strive after. Along with these two essential sources, we then can mix and match those things in life that we enjoy to create our own unique formula for happiness.
Human life is full of meaning. As humans, we assign value to many things. However, what happens when we assign a specific value to a human life? This is the issue being presented in the article, “What is a Life Worth,” by Amanda Ripley. The government is determining a monetary value to a human life, and it does not appeal to the masses. There are many problems with the cold calculation, and most people cannot see the other side of the numbers. The economic value of a human life is calculated based on the income the person was receiving, but when the check is given to a loved one of a small amount, the compensation is misinterpreted as an overall value of the human life. The true value of a human life should not be combined with the monetary value that is determined by the government, or the value of life would be worth very little.
Is life really about the 'money', the 'cash', who has the biggest gold chain or who drives the shiniest or fastest car, who sells the most albums or who has the most respect? Today happiness is viewed in many different ways. Everyone defines happiness according to their personal perpectives. Each individual describes their inner feelings in a way that you can't compare with another. Happiness originally and logically means the inner state of well being or a pleasurable or satisfying experience. It enables you to profit from your highest: thoughts, wisdom, intelligence, common sense, emotions, health, and spiritual values in your life. What makes you happy and what makes me happy are different things. Whatever it is that gives you warm fuzzes is determined by you, and only you. This difference is what makes the world interesting.

I have a very fulfilling feeling about what I have been able to accomplish in my life so far. I want the absolute best for myself and those close to me. I often go above and beyond to help those around me succeed and be the best version of themselves that they can possibly be.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time... Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." ~ 1 Peter 1:3-5, 13-16, King James Version

Finding meaning in who you are and what you do is vital to having happiness. “Leading a happy life… is associated with being a "taker" while leading a meaningful life corresponds with being a “giver””(Smith 2013). The idea of giving if often thought of one that brings happiness, but it doesn’t, it brings about meaning. Happiness is a selfish thing, and while to a point we must be selfish in out pursuit to live a happy life, we must not forget to be kind to one another and be humble. Being happy and having meaning go much together, finding a balance is what is hard. Happiness doesn’t last forever and will fluctuate with moods and situations, but meaning doesn’t. Meaning connects all of the aspects of your life, past, present, and future, together. This connection allows one to look inward and focus on who they are, and while those who report more meaning are slightly less happy in the present they tend to be happier overall (Smith
