In Biology it branches out to many different topics. It is known to be the study if life, and structure or bases. Decomposition is a main topic that interests me from biology, and includes different stages of Decomposition in animals and plants.
Decomposition is known to be a process of dead animals or plant tissue being rotted or broken down. In the decomposition of a pig, there are a few important stages to this process. The very first process or stage is “the living pig”. The living pig contains Bacteria, Protozoans, and Nematodes.
The second stage of the cycle is “Initial Decay’. In this process the bacteria that were already inside the “Intestine of the pig” start to ingest the intestine itself, and start to digest internal organs. Enzymes within cells are released when the

The big will then become bloated from the internal gases. Bacteria is a major factor in breaking down cells and tissues, which causes the release of fluids into the body cavities. Gases such as hydrogen Sulphide, methane, cadaverine, and putrescine, are usually found very smelly, but these gasses help attract many insects. The buildup of gas caused by multiplying bacteria, creates pressure and inflates the body, which forces fluids out of the cell and blood vessels. In this stage, maggots then spread the bacteria, secreting digestive Enzymes and tearing tissues. They transport as the maggot benefits from communal heat and shared digestive secretions. Within the 4-10 days, the pig becomes an attraction to many insects, and then maggots begin to feed under the skin. Stage four “Black Putrefaction” 10-20 days after the death. The body starts to collapse with a cream like flesh and black exposed surfaces. Certain insects feed on the body fluid that smeared in the dirt and consume flesh. The stomach of an average horse has a holding capacity of about two gallons. This may be the reason horses eat small but frequent meals. Television has affected every aspect of life in society, radically changing the way individuals live and interact with the world. However, change is not always for the better, especially the influence of television on political campaigns towards presidency. Since the 1960s, presidential elections in the United States were greatly impacted by television, yet the impact has not been positive. Television allowed the public to have more access to information and gained reassurance to which candidate they chose to vote for. However, the media failed to recognize the importance of elections. Candidates became image based rather than issue based using a “celebrity system” to concern the public with subjects regarding debates (Hart and Trice). Due to “hyperfamiliarity” television turned numerous people away from being interested in debates between candidates (Hart and Trice). Although television had the ability to reach a greater number of people than it did before the Nixon/Kennedy debate, it shortened the attention span of the public, which made the overall process of elections unfair, due to the emphasis on image rather than issue.
Roach lists strange but helpful uses of human cadavers that benefit humankind in the long run. In the first chapter, as previously stated, Roach observes a face anatomy and face lift refresher course, in which surgeons use cadaver heads. Cadavers also benefit the science of criminal forensics, in which their decay process is studied and used for different components of analyzing a crime, such as time of death. Researches place cadavers in different environments and observe the stages of biological and chemical decay and how different environments affect the decay process (Roach 61). To pinpoint the time of death, researchers analyze the body temperature, smell, the potassium level of the gel inside the eyes, insect infestation, and other entomological factors (Roach 62). Another beneficial use for human cadavers includes impact studies, such as a car crash. For the past sixty years, human cadavers have helped scientists understand and study human tolerance limits for violent injuries a human body can get from car crashes, such as skull slammings and chest skewerings. These studies and experiments allow automobile manufacturers design cars that, in the event of a crash, protect the person as much as possible and keep them safe (Roach 87). This results in safer windshields and steering wheels that aim to protect the chest and brain, the main culprits of car crash fatalities (Roach 89). In Labs 22 through 26, my lab partner and I were assigned a fetal pig to perform a dissection on in order to understand anatomy, the study of an organism’s structure1, and physiology, the study of the functions and activities of a living organism2. Throughout these labs, we studied the structure of the fetal pig and performed experiments to understand four system processes: digestion, cardiovascular, respiratory, and excretory. Dissecting an organism, physically moving and seeing the different portions of the organism, especially of a fetal pig, is very important. This helps in the understanding of the skeletal structure and what series of physical and chemical processes the mammalian species body performs in order to survive.

Decomposition is breaking down a problem or system into smaller, more manageable parts that can be solved or fixed separately. An example of this would be a software company having a team that work on the same project all together but working on different parts at the same time to get it completed in a much faster rate. Problems are much easier to understand once they are split apart e.g. if you wanted to know how a car works it would take a much longer time if it was all built, however, if the car was split into different parts you would understand how it works quicker and most importantly easier.
