Chances are, if you approach a college student, and ask them about deadlines, the word procrastination will linger in their head for the duration of the conversation. Most students prefer to leave their homework until the last minute which results in a poorly written essay. Throughout high school, I too have learned the hard way that leaving a homework assignment until the night before brings upon the consequences of both a bad grade and a lack of sleep. I harshly learned one day that just by putting the date of the night before the assignment was due, the professor would automatically skim through the assignment and was fully aware of the lack of effort and responsibility of mine in actually thinking ahead and making better decisions. Having the ability to be proactive means taking responsibility and not allowing yourself to procrastinate on your goals or assignments, allowing you to succeed better and aim higher in the future. I learned to be proactive during my second year of high school, after an atrocious freshman year full of regret and procrastination I learned deadlines were dragging my GPA down immensely. Although, it all changed when I almost got expelled my freshman year of high school, where it was evident that there was an enormous change in my academic ability that was unrecognizable and caused my grades to skyrocket. I believed it was due to the fear of almost getting kicked out of school, when in actuality it was because I had changed my habits and began doing my assignments days in advance in order to be more organized and achieve greater success. Deadlines have now become something that I look forward to by being proactive and working on my assignments ahead of time in order to further increase my academic ability and excel as a responsible
