There are many areas in the world that are living in absolute poverty, one of these is Darfur. Darfur is located in Sudan which is a very poor country. It is located in the Sahara desert, these harsh conditions add to the very difficult life style in the region. This nation has been going through civil wars for many years, placing even further burden on its people. According to Human Development Report 2000, over 26% of the population is not expected to live past their 40 birthday, some will die due to violence but many more from lack of nutrition and medical care. (2009) Conflict continues today in Darfur, over the last fourteen years more than 2.7 million people have been displaced by the Sudanese government .(Reeves, 2016) The ongoing conflicts must come to an end, sanctions have been imposed by the United States, but other European countries have not followed suit, by not imposing sanctions these countries are contributing to the genocide that is occurring in the Sudan. …show more content…

Africare.org is a highly rated agency that works to improve the lives of people living in Africa. Africare does many things to help the people of Africa including, teaching skills that can build lifelong change for those living in the region. They help to teach new farming techniques, teach masons construction techniques, food preparation techniques and many other self-reliance based skills. (Africare.org, 2017) Africare also help to teach and build understanding for health issues, like HIV and birth control. By empowering the people of Darfur and Africa it is possible to make life long changes, not just provide some food to help in the short term. The people in these very poor countries need wide spread change and education if they hope to improve their lives
