Dante's Inferno
In Canto I, Dante has strayed from the True Way into the Dark Wood of Error. He opens his eyes and sees the mount Mount of Joy which is lit up by the sun. He sets out to try to climb the mountain, but his way is blocked by the Three Beasts of Worldliness: The Leopard of Malice and Fraud, The Lion of Violence and Ambition, and The She-Wolf of Incontinence. He then starts to lose all hope when Virgil, Dante’s symbol of Human Reason appears. Dante is very frightened and nervous by Virgil’s presence as you can tell by his response towards Virgil saying “Have pity on me, whatever thing you are, whether shade or living man” (Dantes Inferno pg. 30). Dante doesn’t know who or what Virgil is and is really scared of him. Virgil then explains to Dante why he is here and reassures h...

How many times a day do you hear a jet airplane roar over the top of your house, leaving a trail of dark, black smoke behind? People all around the world are complaining about the noise and contamination that jet aircraft produce as they fly over densely populated cities. Airplanes are flying around the clock consuming thousands and thousands of gallons of fuel a minute. So many jet engine manufactures have tried time and time again to reduce the noise and contamination that their engines produce yet so many times to no avail. General Electric is now incorporating new technology into their engines that will reduce not only the fuel consumption and contamination produced by the jet engines, but increase their thrust output.
A group of Cordoban chiefs did not like the Amir al-Hakam and decided it was time to depose him. They met with his cousin, Ibn al-Shammas and told him of their plan. Ibn al-Shammas pretended to agree with the Cordobans but turned his back on them. Ibn al-Shammas then approached his cousin and told him of their plan to try and kill him. Al-Hakam was not quick to believe him. He demanded to be given proof. Ibn-al-Shammas told al-Hakam to send people he trusts to gather the proof. So, they set up a meeting where al-Hakam’s page Vincent and his secretary, Ibn al-Khada, who happened to be the ancestor of ...
In the previous study, the authors stated that there are various studies about the telecommuting include references to corporate attitudes toward telecommuting, motivation, productivity, supervision and employee satisfaction.
1. The sin is excessive hoarding and excessive spending. The contrapasso is that they have to push heavy weights with their chests around in half circles. This represents the constant burden of material wealth held over these sinners during their lives. In this way, yes, the punishment fits the crime. (Gallagher)
Dante has three visions about gentleness in this canto. The first is when he sees a woman, who is Virgin Mary, at a temple who is asking her son, Christ, why he ran away and that she and his dad have been looking for him. This vision ends as the woman falls silent. The second is about Peissatratus and his wife who is outraged, grieving, and crying. She begs her husband to take revenge on the man who embraced their daughter, but Peissatratus calmly responds: if we punish those who love us, what do we do to those who wish us ill. The second vision ends there and the third starts. A group of angry people filled with wrath is killing a young man with stones. This is about the first Christian martyr, Saint Stephen, who was killed by the Jews. Later, Saint Stephen asked God for forgiveness of his killers. When Dante snaps out of his vision, he returns to the external world and realizes “not false errors.” This is because his visions were not false, but they were happening in his mind and there was an absence of sense. This is correlated to the three visions Dante has about wrathfulness in canto
Dante’s The Divine Comedy illustrates one man’s quest for the knowledge of how to avoid the repercussions of his actions in life so that he may seek salvation in the afterlife. The Divine Comedy establishes a set of moral principles that one must live by in order to reach paradiso. Dante presents these principles in Inferno where each level of Hell has people suffering for the sins they committed during their life. As Dante gets deeper into Hell the degrees of sin get progressively worse as do the severity of punishment. With that in mind, one can look at Inferno as a handbook on what not to do during a lifetime in order to avoid Hell. In the book, Dante creates a moral lifestyle that one must follow in order to live a morally good, Catholic
Dante looks to Virgil as more of a guide more than a mentor. “I looked to ask my mentor,” [Canto XXIV Line 47]. Throughout the whole book Dante refers to Virgil as mentor that was just one example. Several times throughout the poem Dante asks Virgil questions like who is that and what sin cause them to be here causing themselves to be judged by Minos. Virgil guided and represented reason and wisdom, making him the perfect guide for Dante. As the journey progresses, his treatment of Dante changes, depending on the situation. Often and most importantly, Virgil is very protective of Dante. At times, he reprimands Dante for his sympathy, reminding Dante that these dammed souls are here for punishment, and that their punishment is the design of a larger plan dictated by
Technology has been rapidly changing the appearance of organizations and the way we interact with others on a daily basis. In an evolving marketplace, technology provides growth opportunities to organizations and assists in the continuation of a competitive. Many organizations have tested the new flexible schedule work theory to use modern technology as a competitive advantage and a way to stay ahead of the competition. Flexible schedules can have positive and negative effects on an organization. Positive effects include reducing overhead costs by saving money in the office by saving cost on supplies, electricity, and the amount of space an organization needs which assists the company in participating in the go green campaign and flexed schedules also assist individuals on balancing their work and personal lives. Unfortunately, flexed schedules can have negative effects on an organization such as loosing the day-to-day interaction with your co-workers and customers and not interacting with management that can have negative affects on an employees performance reviews and maintaining personal contact between the groups. Instant messenger, email, and the telephone have replaced face-to-face communication. The typical nine to five work schedules are replace by working virtually from the comfort of your own home.
Canto XI serves the purpose in a twofold way; literally as a pause to the character Dante to prepare himself for the foul stench of the lower depths of hell, and as a pause to the reader to discuss the rationale of divine punishment. When the canto begins Virgil and Dante stop to prepare for the coming levels. Dante asks Virgil to find a productive way to pass the time. Virgil obliges Dante and tells him a graphic depiction of the levels to come; both the geography and the rationale behind these levels are discussed. After the discussion Dante poses the questions “But tell me, the souls in the sickening swamp, and those wind drives, and those rain pelts, and those who collide with such harsh words, why are they not punished in this charred city if God’s wrath is upon them? And if it is not, why do they suffer such a sorry fate?” (Canto XI 70-75). Dante’s questions can be viewed in two lights. First out of condemnation of all sinners, “Why are they not punished in this charred city” (Canto XI 73), if the souls of previous levels are sinner...
The purpose of this research is to examine the jobs of telecommuting workers and the benefits that come from working at home instead of at the office. Some businesses think that telecommuting does not help their business because workers are spread out. Yahoo, as an example, has effected thousands of workers by banning them from working remotely or away from the office. The ban requires employees to move their home offices to the nearest Yahoo Inc. office building or else risk being fired. This is definitely not a good move by the chief of Yahoo Marissa Mayer. It will make the employees less happy since they must move from the comfort of their homes to an office building. Without employee satisfaction, efficiency at the workplace will drop tremendously, and many workers may decide to quit their job and get another one somewhere else. Most of my sources help prove this and others of my sour...
Today much focus is being placed on the ability of organizations (private, and public) to increase their productivity, and quality of service. As a result it is necessary to improve the well being of employees, decrease unnecessary costs, and enhance the competitiveness of the organization. Given this, it is no accident that telecommuting, is one of the largest growing areas, in flexible alternative work schedules. The influence of globalization over all aspects, of many economies, also increases the effectiveness of telecommuting. Now, more than ever, many employees are taking advantage of completing their work in an alternative work environment. Advantages can be tangible, such as reduction in office space, or intangible, such as improved family life. Employee advantages include freedom, decreased clothing expenses, and increased moral. Employers also benefit from telecommuting. Reduced absenteeism, and reduced financial cost, are only two reasons why an employer should consider implementing a telecommuting program. There are also environmental advantages to acknowledge, with regards to telecommuting, such as the reduction of traffic, and thereby the reduction of pollution.

Conflict can be found in many stories and it is one of the key pieces to making a story. Without a central conflict in a story the story will seem generic or boring. Writers like to put a conflict in the story to add life to their work and keep the reader interested in what they are reading. It is a way to keep the reader wondering what happens next. In the Divine Comedy, Dante’s Inferno, the main character in the story, Dante, encounters all five types of the different conflicts on his journey through Hell. Some of these conflicts include: person against self, people against people, and Dante against Society.
