Many people think that tattooing is dangerous. Part of this is because people don’t think that the tattoo artists sterilize their materials. Others believe that tattoos have a high risk of infection. And the most commonly reported problems are allergic reactions. Others feel as though the pain factor is too immense. Although these fears are common they are easily prevented. Most of the people who believe these things aren’t fully informed with information.
The sterilization process for the materials used is extremely important. This reduces risks of several things including infection and disease. When people think of sterilization and risk factors concerning tattoos they have more concern with disease then infection. This is because of the many myths that contracting AIDS or hepatitis B virus is likely. Many people do not know that there has never been an actual reported case of contracting AIDS while getting a tattoo. This is because the amount of blood needed to contract the AIDS virus is about two drops, which is incomparable to the amount of blood on a non-sterilized needle. A controversial topic today is whether or not body piercings and tattoos should be accepted by professionals working in health care. Currently, tattoos and piercings are allowed in health care as long as they are not visible. According to one of the studies, “Body piercing is defined as a piercing of the body anywhere other than the earlobes” (Westerfield). Therefore, the only visible piercings allowed are small studs in the lobes of the ears for females. Many people get tattoos because they enjoy designs that mean something to them, but don’t know what type of chemicals or products they put in their skin. After the interview with the tattoo artist at Skin Canvas Tattoo Studio, we learned many facts about the chemicals used and the tattoo procedure. We learned that they have a disinfectant called Madacide-FD that can kill the HIV (AIDS) virus, Herpes, and Hepatitis. We also learned that they are extremely careful with all of their patients and treat them as if they had HIV, so they cover the bed and the tools in madacide and plastic to prevent anyone from getting infected. We also learned about the risks there are when it comes to getting a tattoo. Overall we believe the interview went better than we expected for the reason that we had fun talking with the artists and learned several facts ourselves.

Needle stick injuries (NSIs) raise a health hazard amongst many health care workers. NSIs are predominant in nurses due to the fact they work diligently with patients and handle needles regularly. NSIs occur when a needle stick or sharp instrument pierces the skin, causing a break, or when body fluids from the needle stick are expelled and come in contact with an open wound on the skin. There are many blood-borne pathogens that can be transmitted via needle sticks, the most common being hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, and Zika. Despite numerous safety regulations and protocols to prevent NSIs, blood-borne pathogens continue to occur worldwide.
Organic inks, which are my personal professional preference, are the safest on the market. These types of inks are typically derived from plant matter. Vegan inks are also in the same class as the organic inks as well and are also ranked just as safe as organic inks.Organic inks are also safe to digest. I personally have no plans on digesting tattoo ink, but if I planned on doing so at least I know that it is safe.

Studies have shown that tattoos can be skin damaging and permanent, but yet people still get tattoos because that’s how they express themselves. Good tattoos aren’t cheap and cheap tattoos aren’t good. Your body is your temple, and you should not deface your skin because you can never get it removed. Therefore, you should think before you ink. From reading this paper, readers will experience that vandalizing your body with ink can lead to skin cancer, keloid formations, MRI complications, allergic reactions and infections.

It has been said that ''tattoos date back as far as the Neolithic era or around the fourth to fifth millennium BC.''(skinsight.com 1) Tattoos should be acceptable at a place of business because people get tattoos for significant purposes, tattoos can tell stories and build confidence, body art is a way for someone to express themselves, make up, and tattoos are reminders of life time experiences.
A tattoo artist who performs these tattooing techniques with a high degree of skill makes a permanent tattoo something that the tattoo owner can be proud of. Each technique requires a thorough understanding of the tools and supplies used by a tattoo artist.
