I started dancing ballet before I was even in primary school. Since second grade, I have started my weekends by practicing ballet every Friday afternoon. I have traveled to Vienna Golden Hall to perform ballet with my team of ballerinas. All mates in my team have been through the level tests of the Royal Academy of Dance every year. In my junior high, there were large pressure from school on studying because it is critical if we can get in good high schools that have high ratios of enrollment to universities in China. It was considered a matter of “future”. Additionally, we learnt science at school and I gained a passion for physics during that time. The final year of junior high in China was beyond intense. Therefore, at the beginning of that year, I had to make a choice: to give up my love for ballet to focus on school work, or to keep ballet but study even harder for school to keep a good grade. It frees me of the breathless school work so my mind would not be stiff. I am scientific, but I am not nerdy, because I have additional passions on things other than science. Also, it was a discovery by myself that girls come and go in my ballet team and the remaining were not the kinds that care much for school. They are mostly gorgeous in appearance or from a rather rich family that they could choose a “future” with art special admission to colleges or to work for family business. I am special both ways: I do not pursue to enroll in college as art student or work in career of dancing, but I do keep my hobby during an intense period fighting with classmates sharing dreams about our “future”.
