Cell phones are used all around the world on a daily basis. From America to China, millions of users rely on cell phones in their daily lives. While cell phones have multiple uses to help individuals with their daily needs, this particular device also comes with many risks. While the benefits of owning a cell phone are great, cell phones can cause tremendous damage not only to your body, social life, but affect your education as well. If individuals begin to spend time away from their cell phones and use them when appropriate, our society’s bodily health, social health, as well as education will improve. “Cyberbullying refers to the use of technological communication tools and devices to intentionally inflict harm on an individual or group” (Holladay 6). Cyberbullying can be caused by a variety of factors. From differences to jealousy, it happens throughout the globe continuously. Individuals may be targeted for the following aspects: their sexual orientation, gender, disability, and religion. “Research found that about 70% of high school students in all racial groups had witnessed online racial discrimination; 29% of African American, 20% of White, and 42% of multiracial/other had been directly victimized based on race. Research shows that victims of cyberbullying are also associated with decreased learning at school and with depression and anxiety” (Bauman). From classrooms and public places to personal homes, cyberbullying follows a person wherever and whenever. Cyberbullies can target others in numerous ways. Hurtful messages can be conveyed via email, text message, instant message, in chat rooms, and even in online games. “Although there are no absolutely reliable figures, one recent study, using a nationally representative sample of students in Grades 6 to 10, found 14% were involved in cyberbullying. Another study of youth ages 10 to 17 reported that 19% had been involved”(Bauman). These studies indicate that a significant number of students are involved in cyberbullying.
