Recommended: The importance of cultural relativism

Cultural Relativism holds that because individuals and cultures disagree on what is moral, there is no truth nor objectivity in morality, but, rather, it is up to the people’s subjective judgments. This path of logic does not hold up, and history teaches us otherwise. The fact there exists disagreement among people does not justify the idea the idea that there exists truth in morality. Cultural relativism is an excuse that places personal truth and emotions over factual truth. An analysis into history and empirical evidence dismantles this postmodern way of thinking.

Not only does this line of reasoning fall apart in theory, it does not hold up under scrutiny in the real-world application of ideas or morality. The history and application of the human ideas that have been up for debate have proven to the world whether or not they were wrong or right, but cultural relativism would have us accept any hypothesis that was proven to be wrong by proper …show more content…

We can see that in free market systems that allow capitalism and profit to prevail are far better than the socialist or communist systems that control capital, labor, and other aspects of the market. When the pilgrims first settled in America, they experienced harsh economic conditions living under feudal systems where the British companies and the British empire controlled the market. It wasn’t until the emergence of the model of the free market of Jamestown and the eventual “Wild West Capitalism” people began to prosper and enjoy greater conveniences of life. Socialist Venezuela (Modern era), Socialist Germany (1930-1945), and Communist Russia (1917-1991) have proven that these systems are, in fact, “wrong” in terms of morality and economic prosperity.
