I have always been intrigued by other places, people, and cultures. I enjoy learning about their traditions, everyday lives, beliefs, and values. When I study and learn more about different cultures, my interpretations become more accurate and concrete. Fortunately, I have been given many opportunities to travel to different countries around the world such as Armenia, Mexico, Japan, and several European countries. Visiting these places and learning about other cultures has helped expose me to different perspectives, histories, values, and religions. Oktoberfest is an annual celebration of German culture and is held up at the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. The origins of Oktoberfest started early in the 19th century when King Ludwig of Bavaria married Princess Therese von Hildburghausen. King Ludwig invited the citizens of Munich to join in on the celebration of the royal marriage. Festivities were dedicated to the fall harvest and to German beer. Many people will tell you that Oktoberfest would not be the same without the music. I enjoyed listening to all the musical performances throughout the event. The performers used a wide variety of instruments including the accordion, mandolin, violin, French horn, harmonica, and more. It was fun to watch many people gather together to sing and dance. Music and dance have always played a big role in German culture. Most of the music performed at Oktoberfest can be categorized as traditional folk music. This genre of music was perfect for the setting because it got everyone clapping their hands and singing along. Germans believe that music is an important display of entertainment and a way to express themselves. I also feel that music is a form of entertainment. I believe that through music and dance we can communicate specific feelings or emotions to different people that perhaps other art forms
