José Esteban Muñoz, Cruising Utopia takes an interesting stand on the issues of Queerness and its futurity by viewing said issues through the lens of marxist philosopher Ernest Bloch, specifically looking at Bloch’s The Principle of Hope. Muñoz beginnings the introduction of Cruising Utopia by stating, “Queerness is not yet here” and throughout the entirety of the introduction and first chapter reiterates his concept that queerness is an ideal that has not yet been achieved and is only a potentiality in the dawning futritry. At first glance Muñoz’s ideas make a lot of sense yet however they almost completely negate the “here and now” and focus solely on the idea of the future and potentiality even though Muñoz himself seems to indicate that
The United States of America always had a reputation of being the land of newcomers and immigrants. Principally, in the 16th and 17th century Puritans arrived in the New World (modern day eastern USA) to be able to practice their religion; Moreover , throughout the 19th century Irish and German immigrants left their homeland to seek job opportunities and resources in the United States. Furthermore, throughout the 20th century, immigrants arrived from other parts of the world such as Eastern Europe , Mexico, and etc. Logically, there's a pattern in the sociology of the United States. Why would foreigners come to the United States and leave their homeland?
History can be learned through several different mediums, and it is arguable that the most popular methods are through film and literature. Each come with their own respective advantages and disadvantages, and can each have a different effect on how an event is both portrayed and conceptualized. When comparing the 1987 book Mutiny on the Amistad: The Saga of a Slave Revolt and its Impact on American Abolition, Law and Diplomacy by Howard Jones, and the 1997 film Amistad directed by Steven Spielberg, it is apparent that both the book and the film are able to effectively retell the story of the events that took place aboard the Amistad in 1839. Yet each shed a different light on the matter and have been received by people in a different way.
“Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” At some point in life one is faced with a decision which will define the future, but only time will tell whether or not the choice was right or wrong. The Boat by Alistair MacLeod demonstrates that an individual should make their own decisions in life, be open to new experiences and changes, and that there is no way to obtain something, without sacrificing something else.
In this story, Richard Adams' creates an interesting part of the story when eleven rabbits unite to form a group and flee from their warren, in hopes of avoiding a great tragedy. These rabbits leave their warren without knowledge of why they need to leave their homes. The one thing the rabbits have in common is their faith in Fiver's dreams and visions. Together these rabbits will have to put aside their differences in order to face the danger ahead of them.

“The Boat”, narrated by a Mid-western university professor, Alistar MacLeod, is a short story concerning a family and their different perspectives on freedom vs. tradition. The mother pushes the son to embrace more of a traditional lifestyle by taking over the fathers fishing business, while on the other hand the father pushes the son to live more autonomously in an unconstrained manner. “The Boat” focuses on the father and how his personality influences the son’s choice on how to live and how to make decisions that will ultimately affect his life. In Alistair MacLeod’s, “The Boat”, MacLeod suggest that although dreams and desires give people purpose, the nobility of accepting a life of discontentment out weighs the selfishness of following ones own true desires. In the story, the father is obligated to provide for his family as well as to continue the fishing tradition that was inherited from his own father. The world as we know of it today has evolved over several decades of conflict. The conflicts have taken place due to many factions fighting for their rights. It began with African Americans wanting to be treated as equals. The Civil Rights became the theme of the 1950’s and continued for many years. More recently, there have been conflicts based on sexuality and gender preferences. The LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) Movement of today has changed and evolved over the last several decades just as the American Civil Rights Movement of the 1950’s and 1960’s which gave African Americans the fight for racial equality. The similarities and differences of both movements are striking, and deserve thorough investigation.
When writing the book Into the Killing Seas, Michael P. Spradlin accurately explained the details and the historical value of the sinking of the U.S.S Indianapolis. Additionally, it's clear that he did a lot of research on his topic of the sinking of the U.S.S Indianapolis and what the remaining sailors had to deal with to survive. Switching Gears, his book is not only based on the WW2 sinking of the Indy, but The battles of Guam. He accurately described the terror people in history felt when the attacks happened.
“Paradise Found and Lost” from Daniel J. Boorstin’s The Discoverers, embodies Columbus’ emotions, ideas, and hopes. Boorstin, a former Librarian of Congress, leads the reader through one man’s struggles as he tries to find a Western Passage to the wealth of the East. After reading “Paradise Found and Lost,” I was enlightened about Columbus’ tenacious spirit as he repeatedly fails to find the passage to Asia. Boorstin title of this essay is quite apropos because Columbus discovers a paradise but is unable to see what is before him for his vision is too jaded by his ambition.
The rights for “all”, all, in fact, being substantially biased, of these times do not actually fair towards equality. “What We Want, What We Believe” is written to state what the final goal is. It puts their point of view into perspective–they being lesbians, gays, and bisexuals mainly. It states that they do not wish for violence and to gain natural human rights. I want you to become aware of what we have done and take action to stop people to be happy, to respect their way of thinking, acting, and living. My purpose in writing this paper is to present my points of view on how society has changed as the years go by. Also how homosexuals have fought for many years and all the different struggles they have managed to get the rights they deserve and one day had which were then taken away because they became themselves and also because of the ignorance of some people.

The story of the Fall of Man is known to many people not so much through the Bible as through John Milton's Paradise Lost. Milton's work presents a version that has become part of biblical custom, and to a certain degree aid in the understanding of the Creation and the Fall based on Milton's additions and explanations. The poem's monumental influence aside, Milton's unparalleled perspective has made Paradise Lost one of the most significant works that is relatable to his own era and the present. However, religion is not the only aspect that can be presented at a contemporary angle. By bringing in symbolic figures he invites allegorical interpretations that allow similarities to be made about community structure. Milton appeals to a modern audience by recognizing the structure of society throughout Paradise Lost. Today’s generation remains familiar with this societal component and its various interpretations.
