The activity that is most important to me is cross country. I have been in cross country since freshman year. I started out slower, my first year and I was injured the last month. Little by little, I worked my way up each year. This year I finished third on my team at the Minnesota State Cross Country Meet. I improved because I dedicated all of the year to training. For the past two summers, I have ran the most miles on the team with over 400 miles. Each year I have broken out of my shell, became less shy, and meet more people. This year I was one of the captains of the team. As a captain, I was a role model for the rest of the team. Being a captain helped me become more outgoing and it developed my leadership skills. Cross country has taught
One extracurricular activity that I am very passionate about would be the FFA. FFA has taught me so many things and it has brought me so many places. I 've learned how to be a great speaker from different events my advisor has challenged me to do. Public speaking has taken me so many places and I have attributed most of my success to FFA. When I was a freshmen I competed and received gold in the creed speaking competition. As a sophomore, I tried extemporaneous speaking and received a gold for that as well. As a junior I really wanted to challenge myself so I took up agricultural sales as my winter career development experience. I ended up being recognized as the state runner up individual agriculture salesman as well as the 15th best agricultural sales man in the nation. Now as a senior, I have been going around speaking at different school board meetings, advocating
Erik Erikson was heavily influenced by Freud but while Freud was an ID psychologist, Erikson was an ego psychologist. Erikson stressed that the development of the ego depended heavily on personal and social aspects. “According to Erikson, the ego develops as it successfully resolves crises that are distinctly social in nature. These involve establishing a sense of trust in others, developing a sense of identity in society, and helping the next generation prepare for the future” (McLeod, S. 1970). His theory focused on personality development through eight distinct stages. He believed that personality progressed in a stacking or pre-determined manner, this is referred to as the epigenetic principle. One must
As a child I was not in to many sports or involved in school activities. Going through high school I figured out that being involved in a sport or a school club would make my high school experience better. The first and only sport I chose to do was track. Track changed my whole high school experience and life. I learned to never give up, and it kept me out of trouble throughout my four years of high school.
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile, the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
I have been a four year letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. Athletics have been a crucial part of developing my character and work ethic. In sports, you must work together with your team to reach your goals. Trust and communication skills are vital and are tested every day. The failure and setbacks I have faced through sports have helped me to believe in myself and have the self-confidence that it takes to be successful in athletics and in life. As a senior captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, my leadership has improved tremendously as high school has progressed. Being a leader holds me accountable and I aim to be a role model for younger teammates on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
The performance of Plains Daybreak was held at the Harrison theatre in San Marcos, Texas. The theatre was smaller than I expected, but it gave an intimate setting for the show that was taking place. The intimacy contributed to the atmosphere and made me feel closer to the performances. As a viewer, I tend to have an open mind while participating in artistic showcases. I am intrigued by abstract art. I prefer modern and contemporary dance pieces that tell a story or have a concept and leave me with questions or thoughts afterwards. Plains Daybreak was a concert dance created by Erick Hawkins to showcase a ritualistic interpretation of the first day on earth and was influenced by the Native American cultures. Some
Sports play a very important role in my life ever since I could walk. My interests in playing sports began at the age of three as my parents signed me up for soccer, flag football, basketball, and lacrosse. First grade started my competitive edge as I began to play for travel teams in various sport tournaments. This competitive edge transferred from the sports field to the classroom having teachers and coaches helping me be the best I can be. Sports have continually well-shaped and defined my character by teaching me how to accept a win from working hard, also how a loss is an opportunity to learn and fix mistakes.
When I began high school, I decided to focus on my academics and athletics because I felt those were the most important to my future. I chose my classes carefully so that I would not only be challenged with rigorous classes, but also learn the value of working hard individually and as a team. As I’ve matured over the last few years I realized that I’m able to participate in a wider range of activities and still excel in my academics and athletics. I intend to continue to balance activities such as these while attending
Thankfully, I learned about Wrestling which allows you to participate against other students that are similar in weight. This allowed me to earn a varsity letter in both my freshman and sophomore year and my parents bought me a letter jacket for this accomplishment which I wear with great pride. Other activities I generally enjoy are skiing since I love winter sports. During the winter, I would go to Mt. Holly with my friends and ski down the mountains. This year, I look forward to doing both wrestling and skiing to enjoy myself and have
Throughout this class, there were many social issues and whom they affect discussed. I loved this class for the reason of getting myself more familiar with what is happening around me and around everyone else in the world. This class was an eye opener to major social issues that people are faced with so in this paper, I am going to talk about the seven objectives we were supposed to obtain from this class.
Briefly explain (in 50-100 words), how you decided which activity was the most important to you. I have explored numerous domains – from academics and community service to extracurricular. Among all those, researching and learning about things beyond the school curriculum, is the most important for me. I have enjoyed learning for its sake, since my childhood. My passion to discover new facts, read about the latest news and theories of linguistics, philosophy, informatics or mathematics propelled me to delve into various resources to expand my knowledge base.
Throughout my high school career, I have done sports. I did Circlet, swimming and rugby. High School, especially matric is known to quite stressful and full of lots of work and it was certainly for me. What those sports provided me was an escape, an escape from all the work, stresses and problems that did came in to my life. I not only did those sports to escape but to meet new people, create new friendships, to experience a family outside of home and also to form a brotherhood.
My stocks had increased over the time that I had tracked them. I think the performance was what it was because there has been much more enhancements in technology and the amount of people willing to purchase this great technology are plentiful. Google, Starbucks, Apple, and Microsoft have had advances with their companies and their consumers. The performance was a little less than I had expected. I thought stocks were very hard to keep track of and there would be struggles in investing into companies.
Running is a passion of mine, in particular long distance events. I enjoy the sport’s combination of team-spirit and personal endurance challenge. Of my non-academic extracurricular activities, my role as Senior Class Officer is one I am proudest of as it enables me to contribute to the overall community, further developing my leadership skills, and I am honored by the trust of my classmates who elected me. Involvement in our broader communities is an important part of personal development. Since the age of 16, I’ve volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, working on construction projects to building affordable housing in our community.
Ever since I was little I remember playing games where I would fight the bad guy and win the girl in the end. This never seem to affect me or make me wonder what small effect it had on my thought process. In games such as Zelda, call of duty, assassin creed, gears of war, Mario, and even halo you play as a white heterosexual male. The idea of playing this way never seemed to phase me as a young child. As I grew up and became more aware of the difference of people and the need for other as well as myself a need to be able to connect and find one 's self in different place such as games, movies, and TV shows. I became aware of the one sided views that video games seem to have. Then I realized that it was seen as acceptable to only have the one sided displayed due to the lack of speaking out on the need for change.
