The Relationship between Critical Thinking and Ethics The purpose of this essay is to distinguish the relationship between Critical Thinking and Ethics. Critical thinking plays a role in ethics because it is the process on how we as humans determine whether or not something is wrong or wright. Critical thinking is somewhat a form of detailed examination of the structure and determination of facts versus fiction, establishing the unknown and grasping the understanding. It’s used to describe thinking that is reasoned and goal directed, meaning the kind of thinking that includes problem solving, calculating probability, formulated inferences. Critical thinking also involves evaluating the thinking process, the reasoning that went into the arrived outcome of one’s conclusion and the factors considered in making a decision. Critical thinking can sometimes also be called directed thinking due to the fact it also focuses on the desired outcome. Critical thinking occurs when we analyze and assess evidence, arguments and demands and beliefs and draw conclusions. Critical thinking improves the quality of our notions in the decision making process. Brown and Keeley (2002) define two types of thinking that have both disadvantages and advantages, sponge style, absorbing information in passive manner and panning for gold style, more involved, participates actively questioning. There are also steps to be used in critical thinking and by using these steps, you are ensuring that you are taking the right steps to solve the issue or problem at hand thus, enables you to look at the issue or problem through an objective lens. My Ethical Lens is Rights and Responsibility, I balance my reasoning skills rationally and my intuition sensibility to determine how to fulfill my duties while achieving greatest good for each individual.
