I think I am a health literate person because I believe my health and other people’s health is an essential aspect to having a quality life. Being a health literate person means being a critical thinker, a problem solver, a responsible and productive citizen, a self-directed learner, and an effective communicator. Being a critical thinker and a problem solver is someone who goes beyond basic thinking and understanding. A critical thinker is someone who constantly looks for improvements to solve current problems or to prevent future problems. In my own life, I am a critical thinker and problem solver by taking multivitamins every morning to help prevent future sickness. If I do develop a sickness, I am taking medication immediately so as not to affect me for a long time. I work with preschoolers and they are constantly getting injured from other kids or objects causing problems to occur often. If there ever is a child with an injury, I take care of the situation right away with whatever is needed like an icepack, a Band-Aid, or just some TLC. After the injury is taken care of, I always talk to my student about why that injury occurred whether it be from running in the class room …show more content…

Communicating aggressively with three year olds about the damages of concussions is neither appropriate nor effective. Whereas, a calm and informative lesson about how to take care of a cut is appropriate and effective. I am an effective communicator mostly with my three year olds because it requires me to really think about the message I want to give them and how I should give it. I am also an effective communicator when I have to go to the doctor for either a checkup or a medical reason that has recently come up. If I wasn’t good at communicating with my doctor, I would never learn how my health is and he/she could not do anything to
