INT. BEV'S HOME-DAY Bev lies in bed wincing and groaning. She is clearly playing it up. Dorothy stands over her, her hand on Bev's forehead. DOROTHY Well, you do feel a little warm. Nothing a day of rest won't fix. Bev and Dorothy smile sincerely at one another. BEV Thanks, mom. DOROTHY Don't thank me. I think we could all use a little time off after yesterday.. but, not all of us have that luxury... Bev's smile fades. DOROTHY Oh, well... feel better honey and try to take this time to think about our little discussion last night. Dorothy leaves the room, closing the door behind her. She boils the water in the kettle and stirs in the oats. She does so without energy. She sulks. She eats her breakfast standing in the kitchen staring off into space. Clearly not enjoying the food. After a few moments she scrapes her barely eaten breakfast into the trash and washes the bowl and spoon. She makes her way to the living room where she curls up on the couch still glum. She raises to grab a book from a nearby shelf and returns to the couch. She flips through its pages, unable to focus on it and tosses it aside. She tries to go back to sleep. She realizes she's too cold. She goes into Dorothy's room. It is immaculate. She pauses for a moment, just looking into the room. She walks up to the second door on the far wall and pulls it open. It is full of blankets and linens. Bev eyes a large cozy-looking comforter on the top shelf. She can barely reach it. She stretches onto her toes and pulls the corner of the comforter and a mound of blankets crash down onto her. Taken by surprise, she falls down. Annoyed, Bev brushes herself off and begins cleaning up the mess. She lifts the large comforter off the floor and sets it aside. Underneath she notices a small …show more content…

65. She mumbles words aloud as she reads the rest of the information. After a moment her eyes bug out. BEV Oh...my...GOD....NEGRO!... NEGRO! Her paces starts anew, but more frantic. BEV I have a negro half-sister, born out of wedlock, when my mom was 16 years old and I am just now hearing of this! Bev plops down flat on her back on Dorothy's bed in exasperation. BEV (sighing) What the hell? She rolls over onto he stomach and picks up the papers again. BEV What am I supposed to do now? She stares at the adoption papers for a long moment and them appears to remember where she is. She sits up straight, climbs off the bed, and runs out of the room. She returns with a pencil and notepad. She sits on the bed and copies down all the information for the adoption papers onto the notepad. Finished, she returns the papers to their envelope, then their box. She puts everything back exactly where she found it, smoothes the bed and slinks out of Dorothy's room. INT. BEV'S HOUSE-LATER Bev paces the length of the house, her notes in hand. She looks at the living room floor where photo albums and a bunch of other files are strewn across the floor. She walks to the albums and files and sits crossed-legged.
