The chosen topic is Scenario 2, which has been converted into an answerable question using the PICO framework. PICO is an abbreviation for Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome (Richardson-Tench, Taylor, Kermode, & Roberts, 2016). The framework is a tool used to form an answerable clinical question (Davies, 2011). The issue to be explored is the use of cranberry juice instead of oral antibiotics in the treatment of females with thrush. The process involved in the development of the PICO question, will be described; outlining the key words and elements. The search parameters were adjusted a number of times to filter and narrow the amount of articles displaying. Once the top five most relevant articles were found, the articles were appraised and were chosen to support the question as evidence. (Vostalova & et al, 2015) In this article Vostalova & et al review whether whole cranberry fruit powder could prevent re-occurent UTI’s in women. The authors use data that was collected through a randomised double-blind and placebo controlled trial. Those that were eligible to be included in the trial was women between the ages of 18-75 years, with a history of recurrent symptomatic UTIs. The cranberry group was given 500mg of cranberry each day for 6 months. The results concluded that the cranberry group compared to the placebo, had a significantly fewer re-occurance of urinary tract infections in the future.
