Although there are no specific dates for the start and end of the era, there was a noticeable modernization of American during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Between wars, riots, technology, politics, and entertainments, America was changing in many ways that many argue to this day were beneficial for America. Business, labor, culture, cities, and the Western and Southern areas of America modernized. In my opinion, there were both positive and negative impacts within those topics. The amount of businesses were increasing rapidly, and thus increased the average income for an individual. America was moving away for the uptight, victorian-styled genteel culture, to the more laid back mass culture. Coney Island was a major factor in this change happened. Coney Island was an amusement park on the New York coast, where everyone was welcome to come and anyone could friends with anyone else. The acceptance within Coney Island helped Americans be more open to other races and cultures. Sadly, even though Coney ISland helped, there was still a lot of racism happening within America. Segregation was still socially acceptable, and many American still had the mindset the non white races were inferior. The constitution of America clearly states that all men are created equal, so to me it seems absurd that people would call themselves Americans yet not treat everyone equally. There were some other positive cultural impacts however. A lifestyle of being a bit more laid back became popular among Americans. Americans also all had the samm common mindset of modernizing different aspects of America for the better, even if they didn’t go about this is positive ways. Majority of Americans could at least agree that they wanted to develop and improve
