It minds blowing on the different perception of what decision making and plagiarism mean. It is so much more to it than what was previously taught in a school. In school, it was taught that decision making is what you make of it. If there were a problem, the answer was to come up with a solution. Did you know that there is not a right way or a wrong way to come to an important decision? However, at the college and graduate school level, it more perception to it. The concept of those two is much elaborated. At the college level, it is explained that there is a process in which a person goes through to come to a decision. It was explained to students, that if anyone was caught plagiarizing that it would be weighty consequences. Students can be suspended or expelled and receive a failing grade. Now, the clarification for plagiarism has a little more meaning to it. As stated before, one would become familiar with plagiarism in middle school, when a teacher assigns a student to write a paper. It’s no longer being said don’t copy and paste words. It is more detailed with dealing with citations and references. When researching on the subject it is even said that rephrasing a paragraph with citation or references in the paper is considerate plagiarism. Even if the author name in a paper, if the citation is not done properly that can be considerate plagiarism. It can be the simplest thing and a paper could be justified as it being plagiarized. Also, committing plagiarism in no longer just getting a failing grade or getting disciplined by that school or college. In fact, there a classmate decides to commit plagiarism. The classmate took a paper from his friend, tweets the paper to sound like he wrote it and turns it into the Dean of Business which was his professor. Submitting the paper as his own work did not work out for him. The teacher found out and gave him a failing grade. Not only did he receive a failing grade on the paper he receives a failing grade in that class, which prevent him from graduating that year. Plagiarism not only affects a person educational career but their professional career. Who knows if an employer might request a candidate college transcript and sees that person committed plagiarism. My first memory of plagiarism is from grade school. I can remember having to do book reports. The teacher would always say, "write this report using your own words, do not just copy out of the book". So what did we do, we used a combination of both. In grade school we didn’t realize the seriousness of plagiarism. For the most part we didn’t even really understand what the word meant. It was something the teacher talked about when she assigned essays or book reports.
Plagiarism is the copying of another individual’s writings and ideas. Plagiarism is an idea that has been constructed by society. It revolves around society’s ideas of intellectual and private property. It is considered to be a form of cheating. Often times in elementary schools and high schools, plagiarism is discussed as bad but is not actually prevented. Teachers often do not detect plagiarism and even when they do, sometimes it is ignored. The student is then rewarded with a good grade, ingraining within the student that it is acceptable to plagiarize. Plagiarism affects the ways an individual develops as a person and as a writer.
The book, Other People’s Words: What Plagiarism Is and How to Avoid it, has taught me many things about plagiarism. Some of the things this book taught me are the definition and some ways to avoid plagiarism.

(Black). Several things are wrong with plagiarism. We have learned that you have to take ownership of your mistake after committing plagiarism. We learn the procedures and what the consequences are for plagiarism. People can get into serious trouble for plagiarizing someone else’s work.

What is plagiarism? Obviously the word must be of some importance as I know it can greatly change ones future. From what I know, plagiarism can happen by careless mistakes, being uneducated of what plagiarism really means or just on purpose to save time for themselves. Some writers may not know the actual detail of how you give another writer full credit of their work. Another could be that some students are lazy, worried or in a rush to finish a paper and think plagiarizing is the best solution at that time for them. Mainly, I think this would happen in high school and colleges. Students in these areas are so busy which could make the idea plagiarizing a way to save them a little time to worry and finish another project up. Gasman also mentions the importance of plagiarism free work. The internet facilitates such behaviors because of the vast content offered, but students must be aware that there are severe consequences to plagiarism, such as being permanent expelled from the university with a permanent record of plagiarism.
