1. The relationship between the states added to the Union from 1830 to 1870 was that they had the three-fifth's compromise that separated each state organized into several different territories. There was California that was admitted as a free state by the compromise of 1850 and Utah and New Mexico territory, where slavery was neither expressly allowed nor expressly prohibited by Compromise of 1850. The compromise of 1850 banned slave trade in DC, split up the Texas territory, and established popular sovereignty in the Mexican Cession. According to the map of U.S. territory 1830, there is territorial growth with territorial acquisition and organization as well. However, in 1870, there is more territorial growth in the states such as Texas, Arkansas, Georgia with less territories. The geography of rivers in North America show that there are a lot of rivers that helps with the expansion, growth, and wealth of the states. The rivers such as the Mississippi River and lands allow states to trade with other states with the transportation of people and goods.

Of the two southern slaves states that had more slaves than free blacks or whites in 1850, the demographic differences compared to other slave states would be because of the Missouri Compromise line in 1850, 36’30 N, where states under the Missouri Compromise line were slave states and and above the line were free states and territories. Utah territory and New Territory were open to slavery by popular sovereignty. South Carolina and Mississippi were two states in the south that had a lot of slaves. Mississippi had 55 percent slaves with 45 percent white men. South carolina had more slaves with 57 percent and 42 percent white men. There is also the Atlantic Ocean and rivers nearby which helps with the trade and transportation of goods.
