No form of technology or surveillance was around thousands of years ago when the ancient Egyptians built the three pyramids of Giza , Therefore historians have had to piece together clues as to how these towering monuments were constructed. Over the past two decades, a series of new discoveries and studies allowed researchers to paint a clearer picture of those feats. The first, and largest, pyramid at Giza was built by Khufu (2551 B.C.). His pyramid, which today stands 455 feet tall, is known as the "Great Pyramid" and was considered to be a wonder of the world by ancient writers. One of the differences between the Colosseum is that the advancement of technology led them to build it in less than 10 years! Not only this but the purposes were different between the two buildings , as the Colosseum was built because of a fire that ruined the city and the Colosseum was meant as a gift for the public , while the Great Pyramids were constructed with the purpose of the death and afterlife of the pharaoh ; one of the biggest differentials in the culture , more of a democracy than a dictatorship and hoped for the support of the people in the Roman world. The building of the Colosseum was in the time period of 73-81 AD as much later than the Colosseum was built and non-likewise , much faster. The timescale was tight - the Flavian family wanted the amphitheatre built as quickly as possible. Hundreds of skilled laborers were required to complete the building. The Romans used a new building technique : standardized parts. Stairs and seats were constructed off-site. The stairs and seats were all built to the same size and were made to be interchangeable. They were made in workshops and then brought to the amphitheatre to be fitted.Like the Great Pyramids , the Colosseum was built with limestone but unlike the Pyramids the Colosseum had modern materials used to construct it such as : tuff or tufo , cement , marble , and lead.
