Throughout the many, many years of our beautiful Church, we have seen many Saints that have suffered in the name of God and prevailed. Due to their great faith and love for God, they were victorious in their respective battles for who they suffered for; because of the many saints that we have and their sufferings, we can admire and imitate these saints. Three particular saints we can look up to are Saint Joseph, Saint Paul and Saint Abanoub with each saint suffering something different. Saint Joseph was given away by his own brothers. Saint Paul was beaten, and Saint Abanoub was whipped. He was a persecutor of Christians and one day he decided to go Damascus and Bright Light shone on him and made him blind and when he was healed he received the Holy Spirit and immediately started preaching the word of God. (Acts 9) An example of him suffering is 2nd Corinthians 11:25, it says “Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep;” Saint Paul was suffering far before he became Christian. The fact that he was persecuting Christians and he didn’t care shows how much he was suffering. He didn’t know what he was doing and he ended up hurting his own people. One thing we can learn about Saint Paul and his story is persistence. Do people think that when a persecutor miraculously converts and starts preaching the world God people are going to listen to him? Unfortunately, no. That did not stop Saint Paul. He was shipwrecked and still preached. We also learn love from Saint Paul. He loved God so much he made 2 journeys all over Europe and the Middle East to preach the word of God.
