2.5 Shroud Design

2.5.1 Background
Shroud is the element that is different with the wind turbine because shroud is the element that helps the wind turbine to catch more speed of the wind so that it will produce more efficient power production. Bare wind turbine may good but it will better if adding this element. Wind behaviour is not constantly in high speed and frequent therefore shroud purposes is to collect wind speed and focus it to the blades of wind turbine.

2.5.2 Study of Shroud Design
5.2.3 Comparison of Bare and Shrouded Turbine

This study of shroud determined by comparison of bare and shrouded turbine. The initial diffuser model used in our previous study is of 120mm length with L/D of 0.62. The diffuser expansion angle, is 12o giving diffuser outlet and inlet area ratio of 1.61. The performance of the bare, diffuser and nozzle-diffuser augmented micro-wind turbine have been compared and shown in Figs. 3 and 4. In all comparison, the area used in the denominator of Cp definition is the diffuser exit area. The aerofoil of the blade also very significant, the shape of the aerofoil that has been used would affect the result of the wind turbine performance. The CFD analysis result, such as pressure and velocity distribution, flow streamlines and calculation results such as rotational speed, torque, power, lift and drag coefficient , effect of TSP and angle of attack can be done. Regards for the shroud reviews, found that the differences between the bare wind turbine and the augmented shroud wind turbine affect the efficiency of power production
