People have made many changes in the world, in society, and helped many people who were in need of the help. Those are the people that should be known in the world, because they help people all around the world for being an inspiration to others.Three men who have made a difference in the world show that they have intelligence, charisma, and generosity. The three men who have made one of the biggest impacts in the world are Thomas Edison, Mohandas Gandhi, and Thurgood Marshall. To start off with, Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio, he had six iblings, he was the last of seven children in the family. Mohandas Gandhi was a non-violent leader of the Indian independence movement against British rule. Accordingly, both MLK Jr. and Gandhi were leaders for civil rights that practiced and preached non-violent approaches for their freedom.Martin Luther King Jr. and Mohandas Gandhi were both valid in their judgment to break the law for their peaceful protests.
Compare and Contrast: To my understanding the letter that Martin Luther King Jr. composed while confined in the Birmingham Jail, is as one with the appeal that was given by David Walker. Both the letter and the appeal were pleas, pleas to the African American race. Not only to African Americans, but to my surprise and yours it was also written to all races suffering from the same injustice. These pleas were strong and very urgent.
During the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s in the United States, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X had different methods and philosophies for trying to accomplish the very similar goal of civil rights for African Americans. Although Martin Luther King, Jr. had a philosophy of non-violence and racial integration and Malcolm X believed violence might be necessary and believed in racial separation, the two leaders had a lot in common: “Martin and Malcolm have become the two most recognizable African American icons of the twentieth century”(Carson 22). Both men had similar backgrounds. Their fathers were Baptist ministers and both became religious leaders. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Southern Baptist minister inspired by the Hindu leader Mohandas K. Ghandi, and Malcolm X was a minister in the Nation of Islam, inspired by the teachings of Elijah Muhammad. However, according to at 1965 article in Ebony magazine, “they followed different paths that brought them both into the international limelight, espousing radically different philosophies and yet, strangely, working toward the same end—the winning of the dignity of manhood for the black man in America” (Violence Versus Non-Violence). Both men received multiple threats to their lives during their work and both ended up being assassinated Malcolm X on February 21, 1965 and Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4, 1968. From December, 1955 until April 4, 1968, in the less than 13 years of Martin Luther King as the leader of the modern American Civil Rights Movement, African Americans achieved more progress toward racial equality in America than in the previous 350 years. Dr. King is widely regarded as America’s pre-eminent activist of nonviolence and one of the greatest nonviolent leaders in history of the world.
Up until 1947, the British ruled in India and oppressed Indian citizens. Up until 1964, there was segregation in the United States. Eventually, two brave men stood up and fought for justice and equality. Gandhi lead the movement in India and Dr. Martin Luther King Junior lead the movement in America. Gandhi and Dr. King both employed nonviolent civil disobedience tactics and fought for a cause (to end oppression). However, the two differed greatly in that Gandhi held some “inhumane” ideals that deeply opposed Dr. King’s ideals. Though both men fought for the equality and rights of others, Dr. King had a better philosophy because he fought for a cause and for people whereas Gandhi only fought for a cause.

The Influence of One Man After slavery was abolished, African Americans worked to integrate into mainstream American society. During the twentieth century, many African American civil rights leaders led the African American civil rights movement. All of them had different ideas and approaches to further improve the status of the African American individual in an attempt to gain civil equality. The pioneer civil rights leaders of the twentieth century were Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Dubois. Their respected ideas were known to have contradicted each other.

The definition of a leader is a person who influences people to a common purpose. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr are examples of great leaders who brought about social change through alternative means in the 20th century. Their means were through nonviolent protests of freedom. Gandhi fought for freedom from Great Britain, and King fought for freedom from segregation and equal rights for all Americans.

Edison invented and improved upon things that changed our world. Some of the things he invented, he did by himself. Some he did with other people. Just about all his inventions are still around today and are commonly used. It was important to Edison that he created and invented things that people could use in their everyday life.
