The beginning of the myth of Cronus is about the father Uranus and the mother Gaea had children and the father did not like how one of them look so the other brothers took down their father Uranus .The middle of the myth is about is that Cronus, one of the children got married and he was afraid that his child would rise up against so he swallowed every one of them.At the end of the myth, Zeus one of his children did not get swallowed , he had a plan to get his siblings back and he did and he took down his father just like the prophet said would happen. There is no doubt in mythology that the king of gods, Zeus, is the most supreme and powerful, ruling the sky. He controls the thunderbolt, a symbol of power feared by both gods and mortals. The Greeks and Romans honored Zeus above all other gods. He is without mistake, the god of all gods. Their stories of Zeus are plenty; his designs have molded mythology from his birth. Zeus' victory in outwitting his intelligent wife, Metis, by swallowing her pregnant, was the gateway used by the Greeks and Romans to show Zeus as the greatest god to come since his father and grandfather. However, as the stories of the gods and goddesses unfold, the Greeks and Roman's interpretation of Zeus' characteristics are different. Zeus is always upheld as the king of gods, but his other personal attributes to his godly rein are conflicting. Zeus' characteristics of fearfulness of female deities, cunningness and use of trickery, and lust in Ovid's Metamorphoses compared to the Theogony are opposed due to Hesiod's true respect of Zeus versus Ovid's lack of respect of Jupiter in Roman mythology.
Cronos killed Uranus in order to take his throne, as Uranus breathed his last breath he warned Cronos that his child would kill him, just as he did his father. Naturally the only way to prevent the prophesy from becoming reality was to eat his kids. They didn’t really believe in talking things out. Being immortal, the gods didn’t die. Rea, Cronos’s wife, became infuriated. She gave her husband a rock to swallow and eat instead of her child, Zeus. Zeus was sent to be raised until he was strong. In “The Myth of Cronus”, after Cronos overthrew his dad he was given a prophecy that his children would overthrow him. To try and dodge his fate, he swallowed his children, but despite his best efforts, he was overthrown by his son Zeus. In both The Lightning Thief and “The Myth of Cronus”, fates are given that can not be avoided. In The Lightning Thief, Percy is given a prophecy that he will be betrayed. In “The Myth of Cronus”, Cronus is given a prophecy that says he will be dethroned. Both prophecies finalize as inevitable. Both the novel Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, and “The Myth of Cronus” communicate the idea that despite the greatest efforts, fates and prophecies can not be avoided.

At the time of Cronos's marriage to Rhea, Gaea prophesied that one of his children would overthrow Cronos, as he had overthrown Uranus. To protect himself, Cronos swallowed each of his first five children -- Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon -- immediatly after birth.
Cronus and Rhea are the parents of Poseidon in Greek mythology. Poseidon is one of the 3 sons; the others are Hades and Zeus. And there three sisters were Demeter, Hestia, Hera, and while Cronus was the horrible father who feared his own children so he ate them at birth. He continued to eat the newborns until his wife tricked him by giving him stones instead to save Zeus. But sadly Poseidon (and Hades) was eaten by Cronus to save them Zeus (who was being raised by nymphs) became Cronus’ cupbearer. He poisoned Cronus and he threw up Poseidon. They started a war against Cronus it lasted for ten years until the brothers released the Cyclopes and in return they gave the each a weapon. Poseidon received a trident, Zeus a lightning bolt, and Hades the helmet of darkness.
Rick Riordan’s ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief’ focuses on Greek mythology and interprets this into a children’s story. Throughout the story, there are many references and adaptations to mythological tales, and each one is portrayed in a different way. Riordan writes this story as though Hercules, Zeus and Poseidon were still around today, and this would be the effect they would have on people in this day and age.

After overthrowing Cronus, Zeus took over the ruler of the kingdom. With him taking the thrown on Mt. Olympus, he chose Hades to rule the underworld and Poseidon to look after the sea and land. In this essay I’m writing about Theseus and the Minotaur and The Lightning Thief. Theseus and the Minotaur is about when Theseus discovers that people of Athens are being given to the minotaur. Theseus slays the minotaur, and restores peace in Athens after sailing home safely, but then finds out his dad killed himself. What The Lightning Thief and Theseus and the Minotaur have in common is, both main characters take big risks even though they are dangerous. Even though The Lighting Thief and Theseus have different outcomes, they both show that taking risks can be dangerous, but it’s worth the risk if it’s for a good cause.

Also, in the myth of Medea, Medea assassinated both her children and her younger brother, without any sympathy. To be certain that her younger brother did not rebel against her in the future, she took the necessary steps to eliminate him. Medea as well murders her own children in which she bore to Jason, only to make him suffer. The vicious ways in which parents used to control their children’s lives just sparked a more hostile relationship.
The fact that the opening lines of the epic are about Achilles’ power and the people he has killed as a soldier on the Greek side show the huge importance given to him and his power. In his confrontation with Agamemnon regarding Chryseis, he tells Agamemnon that the Greek people want him to give Chryseis back to her father, the priest. This is an example of his great status among his people – he represents them, the one that lets Agamemnon hear their voice.
