Essay 2: Compare and Contrast Wofford and Wake Forest
Wofford and Wake forest have a lot of differences as well as a lot in common. Both schools are very exceptional in both academics and athletics. Wofford was established in 1854 whereas Wake forest was in 1834. These colleges are both hard to get into and only accepts above average students. Graduating from either of these universities will look great when applying for a job out of college. Students can compare and contrast the many different topics of Wofford and Wake Forest involved with college to help determine which college would be the best fit for a freshmen.
Wake Forest and Wofford are both private schools, which means they have a lot of scholarship money to hand out unlike a public school like USC or Clemson University. With this being said, Wake Forest is much harder to get into with only a 34.4% acceptance rate. Wofford’s acceptance rate is much higher at 77.4%. The tuition cost is a little less expensive for Wofford students. They pay 37,157 where Wake Forest students pay a whopping 46,246 dollars. 91% of Wofford freshmen receive financial aid compared to 50% for Wake Forest. Wake Forest is more expensive to attend than Wofford. The cost to attend Wake Forest is 46,246 compared to Wofford at 37,157. Wofford is located in Spartanburg South Carolina whereas Wake Forest is located in Winston Salem North Carolina. Competing in the NCAA Division I Atlantic Coast Conference, Wake Forest teams are consistently among the leaders both athletically and academically. In the 1600’s, America was the new world, and the land of opportunity, which spurred settlers to travel to the region seeking religious freedom or economic success. However, as the colonies of New England and Chesapeake were settled, they had contrasting viewpoints on how they should live, and manage their newly occupied settlements. These viewpoints correlated to specific problems arising in each area. For example, the New England colonies experienced the witchcraft scare, and the Chesapeake colonies experienced civil uprisings like Bacon’s rebellion. Football has been defined as one of the most competitive sports in the world. There are many different levels of playing, such as flag, high school, college, and professional. Where most of the rules stay the same no matter what stage of playing you are at, some things do change. When coaching in flag football for little kids you won’t be making money, the players aren’t recruited, and you don’t have a set number of players for your team. When playing n college and in the National Football League (NFL) all of those things come into play.
Play style, rules differences, and passion for the game are on field differences between college football, and the NFL. There are also many off field differences, including money. Most general things about the game, are still the same though. Due to the differences between college football and the NFL, college football is more enjoyable to watch as a fan.
Although both the Chesapeake and New England colonies were settled largely by the same people, they became increasingly different as time went on. New England was colonized mainly by puritan settlers who sought religious freedom in the new world, leading to their colonies to develop around the church. However, the Chesapeake colonies which had original motivations of economic prosperity and a haven for Catholics. Due to these dissimilar initial motivations, the two regions continued to diverge as they progressed through history, creating two unique colonies.
College and NBA basketball aren’t that different they have many similarities and many differences. The main difference is that College has halves and NBA has quarters, The Shot clock is different too. College is 35 seconds and NBA is 24 seconds , The shooting distance is different from the 3pt line. In college you only get 5 fouls before you foul out and in the NBA you get 6. In my opinion College basketball is way more competitive and way more emotional than the NBA.

New England is a place where there are six states of the northeastern United States: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The Southern Colonies within British America consisted of Maryland, Virginia, Carolina and Georgia. The New England is different from the Southern Colonies in many aspects, including the founding motives, religious and social make up, economic foundations and political development.
St. Mary is a better fit for me socially. At my old school many of my fellow classmates did not treat people with respect. Not many students seemed to truly care about the well being of their peers. Whereas at St. Mary, it feels like more of a community. We all look out for each other and try to help out one another. The best college football rivalries intrigue us to a point that we are on the edge of our seats for the entire game, but many people do not know exactly what makes these games so unique. Many rivalries are based off of supremacy in a certain state or in a region. Factors such as trash talking, championship contention, or recruiting implications can play into these games that appear on the schedule every year. There are games in which private schools battle it out against public schools to prove that they have earned the right to go against the public school on the gridiron year in and year out. Sometimes teams play to simply win an oversized, metal stick to keep all year. All of these can contribute to the fans paying their money or tuning in to watch these games in which history is renewed and there is a chance for more history to be made.
Research reveals that African American students from both institutions are graduating college but not at the same level. Why is that? There are a number of reasons that African American are more likely to struggle at PWIs than HBCUs. The following factors include: background information, faculty involvement, connection with faculty, discrimination, and adapting to a new environment. These factors have an effect on GPAs, campus involvement, and graduation rates.

While many scholarships require high test scores and GPAs, these scholarships benefit those with more average GPAs. Howard University’s Legacy Scholarship for first time freshman requires a minimum 3.0 GPA and a 1170 SAT or 26 ACT score to be eligible. The scholarships are on a first come first serve basis, so any eligible person may receive the award without separate application.
In the early stages of North American colonization by the English, the colony of Jamestown, Virginia was founded in 1607 (Mailer Handout 1 (6)). Soon after the Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded in 1629 (Mailer Handout 2 (1)). These two colonies, although close in the time they were founded, have many differences in aspects of their lives and the way they were settled. The colonies have a different religious system, economic system, political system, and they have a different way of doing things; whether that be pertaining to making money, practicing religion, or electing governors. Sports bring friends, family and our country together more so than political debates or even church on Sunday. Whether it be football, basketball, baseball or everything in between everyone has their favorite team that they cheer for regardless if they are the shits or number one. Americans will have gatherings of their friends every week of the season to watch games and “support” their teams from hundreds of miles away. Sports have an enormous impact on our society in every way shape and form, whether it is kids pretending to be their favorite super star while playing in the yard or it is co-workers participating in fantasy sports or making March Madness brackets, but which is the most entertaining, is it the professionals that are paid millions of dollars to play or college kids struggling to get by while trying to earn an education?
While universities can range from having 20-1000 participants at a time, community colleges usually have no more than 50 participants in a class. As a result of such a large class size, it is harder for a professor to be able to develop the one-on-one time with a student. Due to most community colleges having a lower number of participants, it becomes easier for a student to reach out and ask questions and receive proper answers.
