Comparing Underland and Overland is somewhat similar to comparing day and night. The two of them are polar opposites of each other, and there are hardly similarities between the two of them. In Overland, the humans have little to no connection to the animals around them. If Overlanders were to meet the creatures that live in Underland then they’d probably view them as pests rather than their allies. The Overlanders tend to go with the flow of things rather than believing in ancient prophecies predicted by an ancient prophet. The Overlanders have a democratic government compared to a monarchy. This is his recreational time, his time to relax and unwind. Instead Gregor stays working even when he is away from his job. Work without relaxation is dangerous. The underground railroad was in fact not a railroad, but a series of paths that slaves would make to try and escape slavery. It is called the underground railroad so when slaves would talk about it the whites wouldn’t know what they were talking about. Michigan played an important role in the Underground railroad by being right next to Canada which is a slave free state. If or when slaves would escape to the north, the fugitive slave law of 1850 made it so that owners could come and take back their slaves. Since the Environmental Movement, traditional land art evolved, on one hand, to climate art, and on the other, influenced landform building. “The principles of landform building,” according to architect and theorist Stan Allen, “offer a new lens with which to reexamine phenomena as diverse as the megastructure of the 1960s, the current fascination with green building, artificial ski slopes, or the vast multi-use stadia being constructed today.” These principles include the inhabitation of the landscape, which much of contemporary architecture has incorporated into its design. However unlike land art’s wild terrains, such as the salt lake of Spiral Jetty or the vast desert of Double Negative, contemporary architecture has incorporated principles of land art into densely populated urban typology, of which the following two projects serve as significant examples.
Surfers, swimmers and sunbathers use beaches for recreation. People fish off beaches for food. Since many people take their vacations at the beach, lots of beaches in tropical locations are important to their country’s economy. Entire cities, regions and countries depend on the money tourists spend while visiting the beach. Beaches are naturally very dynamic places, but people try to control them and build permanent structures, such as houses, restaurants, shops and hotels, on or near the shore. The natural erosion and deposition of beaches becomes a problem. Beaches con disappear over time, or even over night during severe storms. Beaches are areas of loose sediment (sand, gravel, cobbles) controlled by ocean processes. Most beaches have several characteristic features. First are offshore bars, which help protect beaches from erosion. Next is the foreshore, which rises from the water toward the crest of the next feature; a berm. On low-lying shores, dunes form behind beaches. Dunes look like rolling hills of sand and are blown into place by the wind. New, smaller dunes are often changing shape as the wind continues to affect them. Waves and currents move the accumulated sediment constantly creating, eroding and changing the coastlines.

They are both warm and sunny and have little rain, they are both humid and have very bipolar weather that does what it wants such as snow or rain. The biggest difference between the two characters: Gregor and Mersault is their physical form. One has changed physically into a giant insect while the other remains a normal human being. Another difference is the situation between the characters and their mothers. Gregor wants to have a relationship with his mother but cannot because of his physical form. Mersault’s mother is alive and well for part of the novel, but he does not want to take care of her or have anything to do with her. The two characters are similar in the way that they do not believe in God and will both die lonely and abandoned.
