Is The Iraq War present day’s Vietnam War?
There are many similarities and differences between the Iraq War and the Vietnam War but I believe there are more similarities between the two wars than differences. The Pressure on the US government, the assumptions about what might happen when leaving the war, media booming the war to the public, and many more reasons supporting that the Iraq War is considered our present day’s Vietnam War. The Vietnam war went for many unnecessary years before we decided to leave vietnam completely to become its own country and deal with its own conflicts and problems. The United States saw Ho Chi Minh as a communist threat to America than a Nationalist Unifier for Vietnam. Same goes for Iraq. It seems that the United States has little understanding of Iraqi history. US officials have little knowledge of the regional and religious conflicts within both countries when we first got involved. When we were in the Vietnam war the use of booby traps, landmines, ambushes, and planting bombs played a big role in the techniques for that war. In Iraq the use of roadside bombs and IEDs, improvised explosive devices, were a big part of the techniques used in this war. These devices are very similar. Although the devices used today in Iraq are more advanced the devices used in Vietnam they are what today’s devices are based on. We evolved the old destructive devices to modern times to create a more hidden and lethal weapon. The Iraq and Vietnam wars are very similar in different ways. Although being in completely different times the Iraq war just seems to be a more evolved and modern version of the Vietnam
