The imperial period went from 221 B.C. to A.D. 191. The Qin, a powerful dynasty from 221 B.C. to 206 B.C., was the first of the imperial period. The Qin and Han while different eras and ways of ruling had some similarities and differences. Both of them were very big, mighty, and powerful at their times. They each overcame obstacles and concord enemies. Although the Qin and Han dynasties had similar ways of controlling people through government, having a strict social system, and yet having different beliefs. First the Qin and Han both had a centralized government. Centralized government is good for a ruler who wants to control threats. A social ladder is the structure to society, it is a ladder of classes with the highest at the top and lowest at the bottom. This way slaves don't move up to a higher class, or consider trying to move up. A social ladder prevents outbreaks between classes and help to keep them in order.
Third the Qin and Han did their religion differently. The Qin relinquished confucianism and went to legalism, while the Han brought back confucianism. Legalism is a set of laws that if broken you will be punished for it. Confucianism is a belief that social order, the government, and harmony were based on different relationships. These relationships are: ruler and subject, father and son, husband and wife, older brother and younger brother, friend and friend. There are near to none women mentioned, that is because in both dynasties women were of very low status.
Ancient China was a striving place for new eras to arise and succeed leading to new ones. The Qin and Han were successful for their region and time. They both had to utilize the land and what they were given. By doing this they were able to conquer land and other peoples surrounding them. All in all both had a similar governments and a strict social ladder the had different
