Point Guards and Quarterbacks From soccer to football and baseball to basketball, each sport has its one valuable position. This one position is essential for the team’s victories. The player to fill this role must not only be a decisive leader but a skillful player as well. This spot requires hard work and dedication which in turn provides teammates with a satisfying example and contributes to the team’s victories. Despite the varying demands each sport has, preparation for football and basketball essentially utilizes identical plans. In the offseason, the two positions spend the majority of their time working out and preparing for the upcoming season. There are a diverse number of approaches and techniques to prepare for the future, but players generally take on indistinguishable plans. A very important part of preparing for the next season is to work out muscles. However workouts can not be inconsistent and easy, it is essential for all workouts to be persistent and intense; they must also include all muscles in the body. In addition to increasing muscles, endurance and stamina must also be heightened. Running in general is the most preferred way to increase stamina. Since the positions tend to call which play to execute on offense, they are expected to keep a clear mind and deliver in critical situations. It is this focus and effort that causes other players to develop respect for them. Nevertheless, the two players earn respect in distant ways. The quarterback most likely earns the respect of his teammates through his passing abilities. The point guard, however, can get respect through a variety of skills such as shooting, passing, and decision-making. In team the point guard and the quarterback are the most prevalent voices encouraging and criticizing the team. Furthermore, they back up what they tell their teammates. Instead of just yelling at the team or explaining to them what to do, the point guard or quarterback will actually go out on the field/court and show the team how to do it. They not only set examples on the court, but off the court as well. Their leadership continues on from the arena into the locker room and even extends to media image as well as everyday life. By holding charity events, eating healthy, and staying away from drugs, these players set examples for their teammates, which is why they are deemed “role models”.
