Throughout history the themes of literature has stayed relatively the same; the situations have been updated to appeal to a modern audience. One common trait in great movies and literature is the presence of a heroic figure. Odysseus can be classified as a hero, because he departed from his home Ithaca the day his son Telemachus was born and leaving his wife Penelope to fight in the Trogon war. Odysseus starts out his journey with six hundred crewmen and twelve ships.
Through a series of unfortunate events Odysseus looses all his ships and crewmen. Odysseus is away from native land for a total of twenty years, however the Odyssey only focuses on the last forty-one days of his voyage home. The rest is told in a series of flashbacks told from various charters. The concept of a hero has been interpreted in many different ways throughout the ages. One literary hero who stands the test of time is Odysseus. This essay will compare and contrast Odysseus and Thor (film). …show more content…

First, Odysseus and Thor both suffer from their pride. This results in both Odysseus and Thor to suffering hardships that aids their charters to develop in positive ways. For instance, Odysseus encounter with the Cyclops. Odysseus’ crewmen suggest to their leader to take the cheese and livestock back to the ships and set sail. However, because of Odysseus’ pride they stay to see what their host would look like and to receive a guest gift. This cost Odysseus the life of six crewmen.
