Health care delivery systems differ as we go from one country to the next. Theses differences can be examined by comparing the health care system in the US to other developed nations. These differences in health care delivery systems also mean that implications will differ from one country to the next. The majority of health care systems found in developed nations follow a centrally controlled health care system. In such a system the government has an essential role in organizing, and financing, health care system. This ensures that all citizens in these countries have ‘Universal Access' to health care. Universal Access means that all persons have the ability to use all health services that are available to meet their needs. However, we can make a general conclusion that it is less costly to finance a centrally controlled health care system. These lower costs are attributed to the fact that the government is able to manage accessibility of services and oversee expenses of health care through global budgets. In comparison to other countries, health care systems in the US are more costly. This is because the majority of the health care system is privately financed. Up to 55% of health care costs are privately financed through employers and up to 45% of health care services are funded by the government (National Center for Statistics 2002). As a result, many hospitals and clinics are operated independently of the government. Since the health care system in the US is so heavily privatized, the ability to monitor expenditures and services available to citizens becomes difficult. With that being said the government still has an important role when it comes to public sector spending as well as rates for compensation for those patients who are enrolled in government insurance
