Holy Bible vs. Qur'an
Islam is a religion that was founded by Muhammad in the seventh century. He was believed to have had direct revelations from God. After Muhammad's death, his predecessors took all his words/prophecies and compiled them into a book that is now known as the Qur'an. The Qur'an is a sacred text derived from the Islamic religion. It is the epitome of the heart and soul of the Muslim culture. Although Islam is a separate religion from that of Christianity, a plethora of their ideas are intertwined. The Qur'an is similar to the Holy Bible because both texts establish the practice of monotheism and believe that God is the creator of the universe. The sacred texts are different because the Holy Bible preaches of Jesus Christ being the Son of God while the Qur'an deems him but a prophet. These texts provide spiritual guidelines on what to do and what not to do as followers of each faith. Although both religions are of two different practices, they both teach about monotheism. Monotheism instills the belief of God's total power/knowledge; his divine mercy and forgiveness; and human weaknesses/sins. In the first sura of the Qur'an, "The Opening", one sees the Islamic religion describe God as reflected in monotheism. "Praise be to God, Lord of the Universe/ The compassionate, the Merciful,/ Sovereign of the Day of Judgment!/You alone we worship, and to You alone/ we turn for help" (The Exordium 1.1-5). Here, they describe God as their everything and the same is done in the Christian religion. "Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created" (Revelation 4.11).
