As we have mentioned above, one of Germany’s policies is to secure the supply of skilled workers. And as we know, skilled workers in an economy are crucial for economic growth and development. With skilled workers, an economy can increase its productive capacity, production rate and also produce more efficient goods and services at lower prices. This can then lead to higher international competiveness. E.g. the German Mercedes car brand can employ these skilled workers, and produce more efficient cars which are stronger and more luxurious and also have a longer life expectancy, and all this is made with minimum prices, as resources are being used efficiently. Once produced, these cars can be sold to other countries, which will see that the car is of high quality, but also at a low price, thus creating higher demand which increases the exports of that car. The same way, in the economy, these skilled workers will produce goods and services with minimum costs, higher efficiency and with a higher production rate. Overall, this will increase Germany’s balance of trade surplus. For Cuba, one of their policies was to open a free trade zone at Mariel. Considering Cuba’s balance of trade deficit, a free trade zone can be turn out quite profitable. A free trade zone is a place for duty free imports of goods, these goods are either entered into the general market, re-exported or they finish any semi-finished goods and export those. For Cuba, these may be goods that they lack, but can finish and sell at higher prices. Or they can export Cuban goods from there without intervention from the authorities. These duty free goods can be sold at a lower price, and at larger quantities. All members of the E.U. have to first sign a treaty which lays down the rules and procedures that all members have to follow. Each E.U. member has to follow some uniform laws and policies such as free trade and freedom of movement. The E.U. does not belong specifically to anyone, all members have a say on how to run the E.U. Currently the E.U. has several functions, as they have grown dramatically in the number and members, and along with the world development, new functions were added to the E.U. Some of these functions include: safeguarding people private data through the European Data Protection. The E.U. also has the European Central Bank which is responsible for European monetary policies.
