1.It would be preferable to hold the Olympics rather than the Commonwealth Games for the following reason: the Olympics is a much bigger event than the Commonwealth Games, 88 countries participate in the Olympic Games as opposed to the 53 in the Commonwealth Games. The Olympic Games, being a global event, unifies a country and brings people together from all over the world on a much larger scale than the Commonwealth Games.Furthermore the Olympic Games is more prestigious than the Commonwealth Games as there is a huge following. Also the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow was budgeted to cost R10 billion. This vast sum would only negatively impact on the South African economy. South Africa does not want to host the commonwealth games as Mabalula states 'we don't want to bid for the Commonwealth Games,we want the Olympics in South Africa’. This suggests that by bidding for the Commonwealth Games South Africa would be spending money and resources on something that they do not want and therefore it would be preferable to better utilize our resources somewhere else.. As well as hosting the Commomonwealth Games could result in South Africa losing focus of what they really want.Another problem is that the Commonwealth Games is only hosted in one city and therefore the material benefits of hosting the games would be quite limited. By improving the opportunities people have to play competitive tennis we can ensure an increase in participation. We can empower people by running tennis clinics in poverty stricken areas which will help these young people to focus on becoming a a tennis player rather than on crime.
