Recommended: The importance of higher education (essay

For many centuries education has been an important value in many people’s lives. However, some claim education to be a waste of time. Many people debate the benefits and consequences of education in our society. The article “Colleges Prepare People for Life” written by Freeman Hrabowski presents this important issue in a brief but direct manner which is supported by its strong claim, its wide usage of evidence, and its use of logical reasoning and appeals connect ideas together.
Freeman Hrabowski begins by presenting his point of view on whether education is a waste of time in a strong manner. The article “Colleges Prepare People for Life” presents a clearly stated thesis in the beginning, “According to this viewpoint college graduates aren’t suckers; they’re winners in a global competitive economy” (Hrabowski 260). This claim sets a strong foundation for the article. Throughout the article, the author reminds the audience what the claim is and does not lose track of it. Freeman Hrabowski acknowledges that “Yes, colleges prepare people for jobs, but more critically, they …show more content…

He states that “both sides have points. However, the first argument treats colleges as monolithic, and the second turns individual students into averages. The reality is more nuanced…” (Hrabowski 260). He points out the opposition side to strengthen his foundation and argument. He takes in consideration the opposite side to create a counterargument that proves his understanding and knowledge of the issue he is discussing about.
Freeman Hrabowski, author of “Colleges Prepare People for life”, presents the issue of college preparing people for life in strong and direct manner. Throughout the article, Freeman Hrabowski reinforces his claim, provides personal experiences and knowledge, and logical reasoning appeals to strengthen his position.
